SPRINGETT, Robert Peter "Bob" Age 76, of Dover, Massachusetts, died December 4, 2023, surrounded by family. He will be missed. Born July 31, 1947, Robert-Bob to those who knew him-grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, but was a New Yorker at heart. Bob attended St. Peter's College, AB '71 (Accounting) and Fordham Law School, JD '75. Pure happenstance led 18-year-old Bob to a 30-year career at JPMorgan, where he met his wife, Cindy and many of his closest friends. Bob developed his great love of skiing, sailing and Europe (he and Cindy enjoyed a 3-year assignment in Belgium) while working for JPMorgan. He retired from Morgan as a Managing Director in 1995. A job opportunity with Fidelity Investments brought Bob, Cindy and their growing family to Dover, Massachusetts-a town Bob would come to describe as an "Eden," and to which he would dedicate 17 years of service. He served on the School Committee, Capital Budget Committee and for the last five years as a member of the Board of Selectmen. Bob was most proud of being able to get a "yes" vote to build a new Community Center for the town. It took five years to accomplish after a 20-year debate on the matter. But perhaps Bob's most rewarding experience was that he was able to spend an extraordinary amount of time with each of his children, Lauren, Mark and Amy, as they grew from birth to adults. In Bob's own words, this was "a truly amazing experience." There were academic triumphs, swim meets, dance recitals, gymnastic competitions, baseball games and theatrical performances. The family enjoyed vacations on Nantucket, skiing at Sugarloaf and traveling. Great memories and stories to share that cover the gamut of a full family life. Bob is remembered as tremendously loyal, hard-working, clever and fun. As he neared the end of his life, he was touched to learn how many of his friends told him they would never have another friend like him-though even Bob conceded he might never know if that was good, bad, or indifferent! His family will remember him in happier times, on his sailboat, among friends and family, conquering the many trials and tribulations of Buzzard's Bay, Narragansett Bay and Woods Hole Passage, while sailing to Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk and Dutch Harbor. Bob's only regret is that he didn't take his daughters' advice to get a gold hoop earring, thus completing his transformation into a "Salty Dog." Services will be held at the Dover Church, 17 Springdale Avenue, Dover, MA 02030, on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 3:00 PM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Bob's memory to the Friends of the Dover Community Center. Donations may be made via check and mailed to the Friends of the Dover Community Center, care of Cynthia Devall, 28 Francis Street, Dover, MA 02030.
