Dear Donna, I still have so many fond memories of working in the RICU at MGH, and side by side with many inspiring physicians, Roger being one of them. He was always teaching and in a manner that one never felt intimidated. He was also fun. And we all had many laughing moments in spite of the tragedies of severe health of our patients; most who went on to live a well life. I came across this notice quite by accident after a visit from a fellow nurse from those days, and sadly. I worked there when you did and am glad that you had many happy years together. Sincerely, Peg Wolfe

Dear Donna,
My condolences on Roger´s passing. He was a fabulous physician role model and wonderful early mentor, and since that time it has been a privilege to call both of you "friend." May you find solace in the sure knowledge that those whose lives he touched are all the better for it, and may peace and comfort find you during this difficult time.

Dr. Wilson was one of my favorite teachers at Mass General starting in 1989. I remember how he started ICU rounds Exactly on time, eg, at 7.0000 o'clock in the morning, sometimes seeming to appear out of nowhere. To this day, I try to start my research meetings on time, and I've told colleagues about Dr. Wilson's remarkable punctuality countless times, and how it made us feel like we were on top of our game. My best to the family.

Dear Donna and family
Let me share my condolences. I was sad to hear of Roger's passing. I learned more from him than anyone in my residency and fellowship. He taught by example Critical care and thoracic anesthesia, management of an ICU, interaction with others and developing trust. He will be greatly missed by all.

Dear Donna and family,
Kathy and I were so saddened to learn of Roger's sudden passing. We worked very closely together for almost 25 years, with great cooperation, teamwork, in the 2 surgical ICUs, and under his leadership, developing the Thoracic Anesthesia team, coupled to providing excellent postoperative intensive care to the patients of an outstanding Thoracic Surgical service led by Dr. Hermes Grillo. Because the surgeons appreciated and trusted the care of their patients provided by the ICU teams, they trusted and cooperated with the anesthetic management. And, vice versa, an important lesson in obtaining great respect for our work; much of this due to Roger's leadership.
He was a great role model to other staff, residents, fellows, and students, and an outstanding colleague with whom to work. He was aworld class leader at a world class institution, the MGH and later the MKSH.
He will be missed very much. David and Kathy Cullen

Roger was an inspiration to me and many others. He was a friend, a mentor and a superb teacher. He will be missed.
I met Roger as a medical student, when I did a month-long rotation in the RICU. He was kind and genuine, but tough in his academic teaching. I cherished his calm demeanor and confidence during rounds and in the daily happenings in the RICU. After he left for Sloan-Kettering, I made a point of trying to visit him every time I was in New York.
Donna, my condolences to you and your family.

Dear Donna and family,
Kathy and I were so saddened to learn of Roger's sudden passing. We spent 25 years or so working in close contact and with excellent cooperation between the two surgical ICUs at MGH. We covered each other's calls, helped out with cross coverage of medical staff, residents, nursing assignments etc. Furthermore, Roger and I initiated the 4 person team developed in 1973 to provide expert anesthesia care for the world class Thoracic surgical service headed by Dr. Hermes Grillo. Roger was team leader and for more than 20-25 years, provided seamless leadership, outstanding integration with the surgeons and smooth running teamwork. He was an excellent anesthesiologist and intensivist, and a fine role model to the scores of residents and fellows under his tutelage. He also worked very well with the nursing services in the OR and ICUs.
His work also demonstrated a most interesting lesson. Because the Respiratory ICU team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and others took such good care of the Thoracic surgical patients (in addition to the other patients as well), the Thoracic surgeons respected and trusted our work in the operating rooms. And because of the excellence of the anesthesia services in the operating rooms, they trusted much of the postoperative care to the ICU team. This unique arrangement represented a win-win for all, and Roger was a critically important leader in its long term success.
He leaves an enduring legacy of excellence in a world class environment which included the Thoracic Anesthesia team, the Respiratory ICU, the MGH itself, and later on at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital.
With great sorrow and sincerity, David and Kathy Cullen

I am so deeply saddened to learn of Roger´s passing. Roger was my preceptor for my first two weeks at MGH and there probably wasn´t a week that passed by after that where I wasn´t hanging in his office. I couldn´t get enough of him. Not only did I learn anesthesia from him, but how to be a professional that everyone loved and respected. Roger´s ways had a huge impact on my professional approach.
When my brother had cancer the first person I called was Roger. When I had career dilemmas I called Roger. When my son decided to become an anesthesiologist we of course met with Roger. He was always there for me and my family . Whenever we made contact over the years he always let me know that I was a friend which meant so much to me. Roger was truly a giant in my eyes and I will sincerely miss him.

I was a resident & fellow under his tutelage back in the 80´s.
He was just awesome in every aspect.
My year in the RICU was one of the greatest in my life. He taught me so much, and instilled the confidence in me to go on to a successful 25 year career as an intensivist.
RIP Dr. Wilson. You were the best.

Donna--
You probably don't remember me but I was one of Roger's residents at the MGH. I also "followed" him to NYC around the same time to do a cardiac anesthesiology fellowship at the old New York Hospital.
Roger was kind and patient, with tremendous humility despite his numerous accomplishments. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing, as he was one of my favorite professor/mentors.
Sincerely,

Dear Donna, both my wife, Jill and I knew your dad as a friend and colleague. Jill met Roger when he often came back north to visit his daughter Susan who taught preschool with her. He was a kind and generous man. Easy to talk with and willing to share so many views on life experiences. A fine clinician teacher and administrator. I knew him as a resident, fellow, anesthesiologist, and also as a fellow departmental chairman. In every phase he helped educate me. I thoughoughlly enjoyed his conversation and company when he came back north to visit. He was some of a kind man. He will be missed by many and fondly remembered by many more. Donna our prayers are with Roger, you and Susan and all your family. Sincerest condolences. Sal and Jill Basta

Roger was a VIP in the Medical Community, but to us, he was Molly´s, Takk´s, and Lily´s dad. Those were Roger´s beloved dogs. Lynne and I had the privilege of being their dog nannies. Roger and Donna made us part of their human family too. Always warm and welcoming and generous and kind, and the best dog parents ever. We are so sad to say good-bye to a truly wonderful man./Ellen and Lynne
