The tides of life tend to restrict us...well, me...to memories, histories as families develop, careers blossom, history accumulates, all that. But the tears I felt looking at Sandy's photo clarified the time when the Winchester house was being built, and I had the mumps. My dad drove our '52 Ford to visit the Allas. My aunt Ruth gave me a comfortable bed in the almost finished new house that was as prudently distant from the rest of the family. Nevertheless my sister and I managed to have a memorable time getting to know Ruth and Al, and Mary of course (wartime nickname beginning with "B"). Many years later in 1967 Ruth, whom I came to know as Sandy, picked me up at Logan. I slept in the same comfortable bed again until she drove me to Ft. Devens the next morning. I got to know Mary and Tony after that. History intervened. The Allas were wonderful hosts and I regret not spending subsequent times in Winchester.
On visits to Minnesota the beautiful quintet of Ruth, May, Tates, Rodney and Archie sang as if permanently rehearsed. I will never forget the dinner Doxologies.
Condolences to Tates, and to the great family that has happened since my time at Ft. Devens.

Dear Auntie Ruth meant the world to me! I wanted to be just like her when I grew up! I wanted to be with her every minute of the vacation time we had when our families gathered at my grandparent´s home in Minnesota. I am so grateful for being able to host Auntie Ruth and Uncle Al in our home in Sweden in 1990, as well as being able to visit them one last time before Uncle Al passed away. Auntie Ruth was a very happy, positive, witty, bright, creative, talented, musical, wonderful woman. May you rest in peace, dear Auntie Ruth!

Sandy was one of my most favorite people - she and your dad were part of the tennis group back in the 50's and many more years after that....we always had such good times and your mom was always around with a big smile and so welcoming - over the years we would see one and other and always the same - happy, smiling and welcoming she was....and that also went for your dad....so sorry to hear about your mom but what a wonderful life she had and she gave so much to so many of us. My deepest sympathies to all of you. Joan McNeill Bird
