Ruth Hasenfus Obituary

HASENFUS, Ruth Caroline 97, passed away on Sunday evening, January 15, 2012 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine. She had been a resident at the Plant Home in Bath, Maine for the past year. Miss Hasenfus was born on August 15, 1914 in Needham, Massachusetts, the daughter of Louis Wendell Hasenfus and Carolyn White Hasenfus. She attended Needham Public Schools and graduated from Needham High School in 1932, after which she attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston. During her working career she was a secretary and administrative assistant for several companies in the Boston area, including Ludlow and American Meter Company. Miss Hasenfus had many family members and lifelong friends in Needham and surrounding towns. She was close to her brother Joe Hasenfus and his family who lived in Maine. She spent many holidays and vacations with them. An avid reader, she was interested in history, particularly the history of the town of Needham. For many years she enjoyed attending the Boston Symphony with a special group of friends. Walking, swimming and golf were among her many interests. She followed politics and sports with enthusiasm. In later years she volunteered at the Needham Senior Center and enjoyed many activities there. Miss Hasenfus is survived by her two nieces, Carol Yadeta of Keene, New Hampshire, and Dr. Nancy Hasenfus and her husband Dr. Robert Anderson of Bath, Maine; her nephew, Eric Hasenfus and his wife Cheryl of Rome, Maine; and seven great nieces and nephews, Sarah Yadeta of Brooklyn, New York, David Yadeta of Washington, D.C., Gwendolyn Anderson of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Rachel Anderson of Austin, Texas, Adam Hasenfus and his wife Lizzie and Leah Smith and her husband Lenny of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Shauna Myles and her husband Ryan of Scarborough, Maine. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Mass., followed by an 11:30 Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. So very sorry for your loss. Ruth was one of my treasured volunteers at the Needham Senior Center when I was director there. I so enjoyed her. She will be missed by so many. A great lady.
