Marion Joan Caldarella (Safe), of Mendon, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 93.

Joan's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Beth and her husband, Kevin Kelly, by her grandchildren, Melissa, Steven, Kevin (Jen), Brian, and Jason, and her great-grandchildren Samantha, Jacoby, Kaiden, Rylan and Maeve. In addition, she is survived by her nephews Tom (Paul), Richard (Madeline), niece Kate (Kaylon) and great- nephews Matthew (Heather) and Daniel. She was predeceased by her husband Jerry of 40 years, daughter Linda, son Steven, and her sister Jean. She also leaves behind her loving companion William (Billie) Cunningham of twenty-six years, extended family, and cherished close friends.

Joan was born and raised in Cohoes, NY. After earning her RN nursing degree from Union University in Schenectady, NY she was employed for 2 years with Troy, NY VNA. Relocating to the Boston area in 1954, she worked 50 years with Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (formerly Glover Memorial Hospital) in Needham, MA. She was a talented rug braider, hand braiding many rugs for her home and gifts for family and friends. She loved skating, gliding arm-in-arm on racer skates with Jerry. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and an avid camper, with many of her happiest memories at White Lake State Park in NH. As an H-D motorcycling enthusiast she rode over 100,000 miles of our beautiful country from Alaska to Labrador, San Francisco to Key West and all of Canada. She and Billie enjoyed many trips together, wintering in FL, watching the lake Nipmuc activities and all the birds. Post retirement she was a Milford Regional Hospital and Meals on Wheels volunteer and helped start the Lake Nipmuc Association. She also loved to play cards and Mahjong with the ladies at the Senior Center. She was a life member of HOG, NRA, and AMA.
