Dr. Sang In Cho

CHO, Dr. Sang In 72 of Concord, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 13, 2009. He was a pioneering surgeon in the field of kidney and liver transplantation. During his forty year career he served as the director of transplant surgery most recently at Boston Medical Center; and prior to that, at the New England Medical Center and Boston Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was the lead surgeon in a team to perform the first liver transplant in Boston. He also served as the director of organ procurement and preservation at the New England Organ Bank. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Donna (Weltman) Cho; son, Andrew Cho; daughter and son-in-law, Lizabeth and Evan Gottlieb; and his adored granddaughter, Louisa (Lulu) Gottlieb. He also leaves several sisters, brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15th, at the Martha-Mary Chapel at Longfellow's Wayside Inn, 72 Wayside Inn Rd., Sudbury. Burial will be held on Monday at the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. Memorial donations may be directed to the Mass.
