SARAH CAVE Obituary

CAVE, Sarah "Sally" (Parker) Of Wilmot, NH, 64, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2018. The daughter of Joseph S.W. and Joan (Falvey) Parker, Sarah grew up in Marblehead, MA where she enjoyed competitive sailing, serving as Secretary at Pleon Yacht Club in her teens. She also taught sailing at Madison Beach Club in Madison, CT and Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster, MA, where she spent much of her time on the ocean and developed her love for the sea. Sarah graduated from Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA ('72) where she was the first woman to sail on the varsity sailing team and receive a varsity letter. She then studied English and Business at Elmira College, Elmira, NY ('76). After college, Sarah worked for Foster Dykema Cabot in Boston. She was married in 1978 and in 1979 moved to New London, NH for a brief time before making her home in Wilmot, NH. Sarah worked at New London Trust Co., her first introduction to the close-knit Lake Sunapee Region. Sarah was a devoted mother, and instilled a sense of community within her family. With her husband Michael, she owned and operated Gourmet Garden in New London, NH for 30 years. Throughout her career, Sarah dedicated her professional life to passionately supporting New Hampshire's artisans and businesses. In an on-going effort to support the community, Sarah created a line of ornaments with proceeds going to regional non-profits and community organizations. She was an active member of the Lake Sunapee Area Chamber of Commerce for 29 years, and she and Michael were active members of the Parents Association and Board of Trustees at Proctor Academy in Andover, NH. Along with her love for her family and entrepreneurship, Sarah enjoyed traveling, spending time on the coast in Southport, ME, caring for her dogs, and rooting for her beloved Red Sox. Sarah is predeceased by her parents and is survived by her husband of 40 years, Michael G. Cave of Wilmot, NH; two sons, Parker Cave of Boston, MA and Chris Cave of Beverly, MA; a sister and her husband, Meg and Jon Rand of Laconia, NH and their children, Jennifer and Charlie; a sister, Lisa Parker of Marblehead, MA; a brother and his wife, Joe and Libby Parker of Marblehead, MA and their sons, Sam and Will; an aunt Nancy P. I learned about Sarah's passing while at the doctor's office and was sadly unable to attend services since I was ill. Sarah was an amazing addition to our area! I so enjoyed visiting with her and seeing her beautiful smile at Chamber Events and in her wonderful store, discussing sailing, Marblehead and the mutual sailors Ken and I knew also. Our hearts go out to her family and friends. She touched so many lives and will be sorely missed by everyone who had known her.

I remember Sarah as if it was yesterday. I have lived in the UK for the last 35 years but loved to visit Gourmet Garden on my trips home to New London. Sarah and I became friends in this wonderful community. I can only say how sad I am to here of her passing. I send prayers, blessings and strength from above at this time to Michael and all the family. Janet 'Sam' Baynes Benzie

Practically an icon at the Williston Northampton School, who didn't know this kind, funny, sporty, engaging lady? Always a smile, a kind word, and as so many have said, her passion for the Red Sox! A great loss to all who were lucky enough to have known her. I can say with conviction her WN friends will be sure to keep her loving memory alive at every reunion. Rest in Peace dear friend.

Shocked and saddened to learn of the loss of Sarah. My husband Garry and I got to know her as we waited for our table at PCs. She was such a warm and welcoming person, always striking up a conversation and even remembering details from our previous chats. Can't believe her creative, vibrant spirit will no longer be here in person. My heart goes out to her family.

I contacted Sarah at Christmas this past year to order 5 Wilmot decorations for family gifts since we moved away. We conversed a couple of times since then catching up. She did not mention being ill. I am heartbroken to hear this news! Sarah was one of the first people to welcome my family to the New London community in 1992 when we settled there. She and Mike took the time to introduce us to many others. Parker and Chris grew up with my children. My heart goes out to Mike and the boys and also to the rest of her extended family that she adored My heart is filled with love for you all. I am so sorry for your loss!!!

Wow first I need to say I am shocked by her passing. I had no idea. I will always remember the first day we met. It was at least 35 years ago. There was a small gathering at their home in Wilmot. We soon realized we were both from Marblehead. Then after some more conversation figured out that we were actually (distantly) related by marriage. We were friends from that day forward. I remember both boys being born and so much more. Rest in Peace Sara, see you again on the other side. Mike thoughts and payers to you and the boys.

Met Sally when she started at New London Trust and had many, many, many laughs with she and Mike. Had the opportunity to spend some time with she and Mike and their boys this winter when she showed us what a truly tightly bonded family they are. A big loss for our community.

Sally and I have been friends since 1973, when we met on a European study tour while attending Elmira College. We remained friends after that. My husband and I (with our dogs) would park our RV in Mike and Sally's driveway for many years, visiting them on vacation. They introduced us to Boothbay Harbor (& Southport) which is our favorite vacation spot. We are devastated by the news of her passing. She has been such a good friend and we will miss her deeply. Our thoughts go out to Mike, Parker, Chris, her family, and all who knew and loved her!

Sally was a member of a remarkable group of young women who made a giant leap of faith when the Northampton School for Girls merged with Williston Academy in 1971 and helped make the school what it is today. Sally never missed a reunion of our ground-breaking class and she endeared herself to us all. A kind and gentle soul who will not soon be forgotten by her classmates.

You will be greatly missed. Reunions at Williston-Northampton won't be the same without our biggest cheerleader. You were my roommate, friend and getting into trouble buddy. I loved your love of family, dogs, community and the Red Sox. And always a kind word for everyone. My very sincere condolences to her family.

Very sad to hear of Sarah's passing. She was one of the first people our family met even before we moved to the area. We will remember her as a true ambassador to the New London area and her welcoming spirit will surely be missed. May the family be blessed with loving memories .
