SEAN MORRISON

1933 - 2016

MORRISON, Sean Sean Morrison, aged 83, of Hanover, formerly of Hingham, died Thursday, November 10, from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born in Liverpool, England on January 17, 1933. He met his wife Susan (nee Robbins) while a student at Cambridge University, and emigrated to the United States in 1955. Sean began his career in New York City. His first job was in television advertising at a time when commercials were filmed live during breaks in live shows. He was one of the pioneers in the use of videotape. He later became an editor, mostly of juvenile and adult textbooks and nonfiction books, first at Random House and later at Houghton Mifflin in Boston. He also wrote and illustrated more than a dozen children's books. Sean taught communications at Boston University for five years. He finished his career as a computer consultant during the early days of personal computers and desktop publishing. In retirement, Sean was a docent at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, where he specialized in the glass flowers exhibit, and later volunteered at the Mass Audubon Trailside Museum in Milton, where he specialized in birds, especially his favorite, the raven. Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife of 61 years, Susan, his son Sean, and daughters Moira and Leslie. He will be remembered as a man who brought a unique and sometimes startling sense of creativity to all aspects of his life. Services were private.
