CHIPMAN, Stephen Henry Age 62, died unexpectedly March 21 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born September 9, 1960, in Stoneham, MA, the son of Willis Frederick and Marie Santa (Masucci) Chipman. Steve graduated from Melrose High School in 1978. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was Crew Captain and received a Business Degree. After college, Steve began his 40 year career in Financial Services. He was a renowned professional, known for his energy, optimism, and leadership. In 1986, Steve moved to Phoenix, AZ. In his career, he made profound impacts at various institutions including Transamerica, Cambridge Investment Group, Advisor Group, Foothill Securities, and Pershing Bank of New York Mellon. Through Steve's love of baseball, he made an impact in the Phoenix community. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Boy's and Girls Club's RBI program through the Arizona Diamondbacks. Other involvements include Phoenix Rotary and organizing baseball equipment drives, hand-delivering to communities in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. His fondest memories include being present for the Red Sox World Championship's in 2004 and 2018, coaching his two sons through Little League, and spending summers in Hampton Beach. Steve is survived by his two sons, Stephen D. Chipman and James H. Chipman; his two sisters, Debbie Shynk and Donna Vitale; and his beloved nieces and nephews. Steve will be reuniting with his dear brother Richard Chipman, who passed 2021. There will be services held in Massachusetts at a later date.

Steven was always getting things done...one of the most productive people I know but still had time to help others and for his friends! He used to love my dog Tyger who passed a couple months before him. He would watch tyger sometimes when I was in AZ and the two loved each other. I know Tyger must of found Steven in heaven by now and they are best buds! My heart goes out to his two sons! He talked about them often and how proud he was of them! I just pray for peace and that time would bring healing for you!

So sorry we were unable to attend Steve's Celebration of Life service. Becky and I were saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great friend and played a pivotal and important part in our lives when we transitioned from Associated Securities to Foothill Securities. There was an immediate family friendship. We found him to always look for the best in life's situations with tremendous warmth, laughter, positivity and loyalty. We will dearly miss Steve.

How many guys do you know who have three nicknames - Chip, The Rock and Captain. Wow... I am missing Steve already. Steve and I were classmates at UMass and we rowed together on and off for four years. I say on and off, as it was for me. But not for Steve... he kept it going for four straight years. We all looked up to Steve for his focus, stamina, strength and leadership. He did all of this while excelling at business school as well. When I moved back to the states just about a year ago, Steve was one of the first guys I reached out to. Steve went out of his way to come meet me while I was in Scottsdale for a business conference. We chatted for hours, reminisced and even cried a bit or two over some small things and some very large ones as well. It was like old times in a matter of just a few minutes. Steve really looked forward to our Head of the Charles Regatta in October of last year. We all did I guess, but it seemed to mean a bit more to Steve. He was doing a bit of reconnecting too I guess and he also liked the idea of getting back into rowing shape. Fortunately for us, Steve brought along his two sons - Stephen and James - who many of us met for the first time. He was so proud of those two boys... and it is clear why. They both are good-looking guys who came across as mature, outgoing, bright and very interested to hear a few stories about his dad "back in the day". Ha ha... I am not sure about my other rowing colleagues, but I kept those good memories to myself. Steve and I were in touch in January as we were planning a get-together in Arizona this spring. I wish I had planned to do this sooner. Chip's passing is my loss and my teammates' loss, but of course our thoughts are mostly with his dear family. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we mourn with you this very sad news. When appropriate, I encourage you to check out our UMass Crew Alumni (aka the "Aging Aggies Rowing Program") facebook page. Several of us have already posted our find memories of this very great man. Godspeed.

Shocking and painfully sad.
Steve consistently led and finished with a smile, always kind, caring and pleasant.

I cherish my fond memories of Steve.

Rowing in one of those great fours in Florida during winter break 81/82, having him as my wingman in the 7 seat that Spring, competing together in a pair the summer at the IRA, and reuniting with him last Fall at the HOC for one last row and hug.

When I closed my eyes last night I had powerful and clear memories of his smiling face and our conversations about life during his visits to the Cape and most recently at the HOC.

I still smile , more than 40 years later, when I hear Wouldn´t It Be Nice recalling the laughs and good times Lizanne and I shared with Steve and Robin knowing that was their song.

Good night my friend
Sleep tight my friend

You left a tremendously positive impact.
We miss you and loved you

Steve, you are such a special soul, the Lord must have needed help in the heavens organizing a baseball league. It's the only explanation that makes sense as you left us way too soon. I have soooo many wonderful memories, not sure where to begin. My favorite memories always include you and David laughing about a great baseball play. I look forward to seeing you in Heaven. Till then, have fun, laugh lots and we'll see you on the other side, with much love and prayers, Laura

I had the privilege of having a desk a few feet from Steve's office, and the greater privilege of working alongside him on a project. Steve was one of the first people to introduce themselves to me on my first day with Cambridge, and any nervousness I had was instantly dissolved by his warm smile, gentle demeanor, and genuine nature. Since then, Steve and I had many conversations; his unshakable positivity and ever-present smile always encouraging, always inspiring. Even on the busiest days, he still found time to say hello. I'll always remember the kind soul, with the instantly-recognizable voice, who would gladly go out of his way to help anyone without hesitation. It is no surprise to see such a strong outpouring of love from so many whose lives he touched. Thinking of Steve's family in such a difficult time, my heart goes out to you all.

Steve, I'm gonna miss ya man.

Having just heard this terrible news, I just want to extend my condolences to the whole family, but especially to Steve's two sons, who I met for the first time at this past fall's Head of the Charles. When we met by the UMass boat, I could tell how proud your father was to share the bonds we all had from back in our "glory days" at UMass and within the walls of Phi Mu Delta. Know that we called him the Rock because he was just that...focused and solid...the kind of guy you admired...a leader who led by example...and never, ever gave less than 100%. Know that there is a true brotherhood back in Massachusetts, and around the country, who are collectively sad with you. And we'll pull for you, wishing you peace and strength. Best to you fellas. And RIP Rock!

I first met Steve in 2007 when we were both Little League coaches in Pleasanton, CA. I was impressed with his friendliness, character, honesty, and that he was always willing to help out and to do the right thing for the boys and the league. We became friends and then decided to coach our son´s little league teams for the next 4 years. Over the years as our boys grew into men our friendship grew as well. My thoughts and prayers are with his sons Stephen and Jay and the rest of the family and friends of Steve. He will always be remembered for being a wonderful man, dedicated father and dear friend. Rest in peace Steve. Is there baseball in Heaven? Looking forward to finding out, just not anytime soon. :o)

Steve was a breath of fresh air in an industry that needs his qualities of being a strait shooter and fair minded leader. I am thankful for his welcoming presence and VERY fair dealing during my brief tenure at Foothill Securities. He was a good man who's warm leadership will be missed.

Steve, I'm so glad that we had the opportunity to talk on the phone on Monday night. I appreciate the words that you said to me during the call. I'm still shocked about what happened as we just talked and then I received news of what happened less than 48 hours later. I enjoyed our time at Cambridge together. Thanks for all the conversations, but especially the last one.

Steve, thank you for making for me feel welcome when I joined the Cambridge family over a year ago. It was nice to meet someone that I could talk and relate to from Massachusetts. I'll always remember our conversations at the end of the day. Since you left Cambridge, I've really missed that. So, seeing that I was already missing you buddy, this second "good-bye" is even more difficult. I will remember you for who you were. An honest hard working, good natured, genuine individual that made friends and left his mark where every you went. I will keep you in my prayers, because I know you're busy networking, and making your presence known in the afterlife. Safe travels.
