STEPHEN FAUTEUX Obituary

FAUTEUX, Stephen P. Of Newton, MA, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 76. Born September 24, 1948, in East Hartford, CT, to Urban and Madeleine Fauteux, Steve graduated from George J. Penney High School in 1966 and earned his degree from Yale University in 1970. He was drafted shortly after graduation and served two years in the U.S. Army, primarily at Walson Army hospital as a physical therapy technician. While at Ft. Dix, he founded the Junior Enlisted Council, to represent the concerns of young soldiers, an initiative that drew national notice and earned him an invitation to testify before Congress, where he spoke for the enlisted soldiers whose voices too often went unheard. After his military service, Steve earned a JD from Harvard Law School. He worked for the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission, before spending over 30 years as Chief of the Enforcement Division at the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. Steve married Kathleen McKenna in 1970 and together, they raised three sons in Newton. A lifelong public servant, he was an Eagle Scout, youth soccer leader, and recipient of the Judge Franklin N. Flashner Youth Service Award for his efforts to improve Newton's soccer fields. He was also an original member of the "Dawn Patrol" golfers at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course. Steve and Kathy shared a love of travel, but their happiest place to visit was Sandy Island YMCA Family Camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, where they returned each summer with their children and grandchildren for 35 years as proud Week Three campers. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Steve will be remembered for his dedication to family and his incredible work ethic. He is survived by Kathy, his beloved wife of 54 years; his sons, Kevin (Jessica), Michael (Jean) and Andrew (Sunali); and grandchildren, Lila, William, Henry, Jack, Cameron, Stephen, Emily and Rishi Fauteux. He also leaves his siblings, Maureen Schofield, Colleen Fauteux and Kevin Fauteux. The family is deeply grateful for the care Steve received during his battle with Parkinson's, especially from his teams at the VA and Mass General. Visiting Hours are Thursday, 4-7 PM.
