I knew Steve as the manager at Laughing Alley as well as a sales rep, cohort, and competitor of mine in the business but he was always a gentleman. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He will be sorely missed by everyone in the cycling community.

I just found out as I was reading the Bicycle Retailer news on line. My heart sank. My deepest sympathy to Ellen, children, and all Steve's family and friends. I knew Steve from the Laughing Alley days as I was their Peugeot rep. As a competitor, when he "hit the road" he was hard working and always knew his stuff. Always respectful. We enjoyed the "road warrior" stories we shared when our paths crossed on sales calls. I know he had a rough go for years, but he always stayed the course and never complained. Rest in peace Steve.

Very sorry to hear the news about Steve. The bicycle business was our main connection as he visited our bike shop as a rep for many years.
But we had lovely chats about music when he learned my son was off to college to study world music as a percussionist.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

I knew Steve on and off over the years from the bicycle industry. He was always "chipper" when I saw him. A great example of living with an "attitude of gratitude". Thanks for touching me with this briefly, from time to time. Rest in peace Steve. You will be remembered for good things.

I was saddened to hear of Stephen s passing when Richard called. Although I hadn't been in Stephen s company for many years the Marcus family and the Wolf family have very strong bonds. His parents first home in the States was ours. They were so proud of their sons and loved being n America. I always remember the bouquet of flowers being delivered on May 1, the
anniversary of their arrival. They were a class act , as are their sons. May you be,comforted by friends and family. Love, Sheila Wolf Agranat,

a loving soul. Years ago, Steve took me on a little bike ride because I had told him I loved biking and had been riding my whole life. I probably was nineteen or twenty at the time.. Every time I wanted to stop and rest, he said, "No. Not now. Keep going, Even when we got to a traffic light. Keep moving. Keep balancing. When we would got to our seventh or so, hill, "Can we rest now?" I asked desperately. "Nope," he said, flying by me. "Lower the gear." I watched him reach to the top. He had shrunk in size. He rode in circles waiiting. I felt, at this point, I was fighting for my life, I was breathing so hard. When I reached the top, my anger and astonishment at what felt like total indifference to my impending collapse, was building, I begged for mercy, Steve broke into an enormous smile as he circled around me. He slowed, and let his feet land softly on the pavement. "Ok," he said, surrendering, "we can rest." He never lost that smile. Thirty five years later, I ran into Ellen and Steve at a friend's photography exhibit. Frailer now, Steve broke into an enormous shy, twinkling smile. Love poured out of him. He made me feel like I had reached the top of the hill, again. His smile will resonate in the hearts of his family for eternity.
My love goes out to you Ellen and your loving family.
Once again, he had reached the top
