STEPHEN PAPPAS Obituary

PAPPAS, Stephen G. MD Age 87, of Somersworth, NH, died on June 27, 2021. Stephen was the son of George and Koula (Pierrochakow) Pappas.

Dr. Pappas graduated from the University of New Hampshire and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Following his medical training at Mary Hitchcock (Dartmouth) Hospital, he served on active duty in Vietnam as Captain in the Medical Corp of the United States Army.

Dr. Pappas was a general surgeon at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH for 30 years. He served as Chief of Surgery, a member of the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Board. He was awarded the New Hampshire Hospital Association's Medical Staff Award in 1996.

Dr. Pappas served as parish council president of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church for many years. He was conferred the title of Archon "Aktourarios" of the Ecumenical Patriarchate by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in New York.

Dr. Pappas is survived by his daughters Kim (Pappas) Girard and her husband Dr. Mark Girard, Christina Pappas and Stephanie Pappas, his grandchildren Elizabeth Girard and Stephen Girard, his aunt Bessie Valasiadis, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Olga (Spanos) Pappas, his brother William Pappas, and his aunts Christine Gaitan, Irene Wilson, Pauline Pierrochakow, Mary Perry and Evangeline Bograkos.

Calling Hours are Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4-7pm at The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11am at The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church.

Arrangements are being made by Roberge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stephen Pappas' name to The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, 45 Tates Brook Rd., Somersworth, NH 03878.
