STEPHEN UMANA Obituary

UMANA, Stephen A. Beloved Son and Brother Age 62 of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully, at home, on March 4th after a brief battle with cancer. Steve is survived by his mother Pauline Umana of Reading; his father Mario Umana and his wife Judy of Lynnfield; his brother Michael and his wife Cheryl of Needham; brother Christopher and his wife Ilran Kim of Beverly; and his sister Valerie Amenta and her husband Dominic of Lynnfield. Also survived by his much-loved nieces and nephews, Christopher and Emily Umana and Francesca and Roman Amenta. Stephen was a graduate of Reading High School and graduated with honors in 1983 from Boston University School of Management. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He started his professional career at the accounting firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell and, several years later, opened his tax practice in Winchester. Steve was a talented golfer and a patient fisherman. He loved to cook and his family always enjoyed his culinary offerings at all their gatherings. He was a funny, kind, generous man who will be loved forever by his family and sorely missed by his friends. Funeral Service will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Every year we had a ritual where Steve and I joked about taxes filings as we worked through them. Steve made something as boring as taxes entertaining with humour and laughter. We got through 25 years like that! We will miss Steve Umana and all the laughter.

Steve was a true professional, an expert, an advisor. I first met him in the Winchester office in the 1990s and he continued as my family and my tax preparer ever since. As we all grew up and moved to new places, Steve was our confident CPA, a cheerful voice in a complicated world. With sincere condolences.
