Dear Mrs. Hartry, dear Sarah,
from Mainz, Germany I am sending my sympathies to you and your family. It is very sad that Ted has left, but I will always keep my best memories of him in my heart.
It is a long time ago that I met Sarah, Ted and you here in the city of Mainz, but I still feel the warmth and hospitality your family gave to me visiting you in Cambridge. My thoughts are with you.

Mr. Hartry,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army as a member of the 10th Mountain Division. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. The 10th Mountain Div. was one of the toughest and best trained units in the Army during the War and fought in some of the toughest battles in Italy.

Dear Bert, Now the time has come for Ted to go. I am so very sorry and I send you my love and expression of deep sympathy. I will never forget your visit to Samedan and the wonderful hikes we made together in the Engadin. He was such a wonderful guy, warm generous and a great sense of humor. Bless you all, Jane
