THOMAS S. MARVEL

1935 - 2015

Marvel, Thomas S., FAIA Born in Newburgh, New York, on March 15, 1935 and passed away on November 3, 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received a BA from Dartmouth College and an MArch from Harvard Graduate School of Design. He was awarded the Appleton Travelling Fellowship, enabling him to take a 4 month trip around the world. He worked at Synergetics, the office of R. Buckminster Fuller and at the IBEC Housing Corporation before moving to Puerto Rico in 1959. He established his first partnership in San Juan in 1960, and stayed active as an architect, planner and urban designer until his death. He authored three books and was a faculty member of the School of Architecture at the University of Puerto Rico. On the board of numerous civic and professional organizations at a regional and national level, Tom is survived by his beloved wife Lucilla, sons Deacon, Jonathan, Thomas, and 7 grandchildren. Services have been held.
