TO THE MCATEER FAMILY.
WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR DAD'S PASSING. HE WAS BEST MAN AT MY WEDDING 46 YRS AGO. MY HUSBAND DIED IN APRIL OF 2007 SO I FEEL YOUR PAIN. HE AND MY HUSBAND HAD LOTS IN COMMON, WE WENT TO INTERCOLONIAL IN OUR YOUNGER DAYS. HE WENT TO CATHEDRAL HIGH WITH ME THEY ARE HAVING THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSAY THIS YEAR. I KNOW ANN BECHET CALLED HIM ABOUT IT HE SAID HE DIDNT THINK HE WOULD MAKE ITHE WAS WAITING FOR A TRANSPLANT. THAT WAS JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REACH HIM BUT EVIDENTLY HE HAD CHANGED HIS PHONE. SOME ONE WHO WORKED AT MIT TOLD ME SHE WENT TO A CHRISTMAS PARTY AND HEARD THE NEWS. THATS ESPECIAL HARD TO LOOSE SOMEONE AT CHRISTMAS. LETS FACE IT YOU ARE NEVER PREPARED. I HOPE HE WAS HAPPY WITH HIS NEW WIFE , TOO BAD THEY DIDNT HAVE LONGER TOGETHER. WELL BEST END THIS FOR NOW BUT YOU ARE ALL IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. GOD BLESS TAKE CARE OF EACHOTHER

I haven't been in touch with Tommie for years, and was so sorry to hear of his passing. I always remember his warmth and humor when I was new at MIT. His cheerfulness brightened my day. Like Sal Puleo said, he was a good and gentle soul.

Rest in peace, Tommie Your kindness left an impression on so many of us

My sincere condolences to his family.

To Tom's children, grandchildren and wife Mary. I volunteered with Tom Monday nights for 15 years. We would often meet in the cafeteria. He would sit and sip tea while I ate dinner. He spoke of his love for his children, grandchildren his new wife, his pets and Ireland. We always had many laughs. I will miss him so. He was a wonderful man.

To the McAteer Family

I was saddened to read of Tommy's death. Although I haven't seen him in years, he dropped me a note occasionally. I lived across the street from him in East Boston many years ago and we went to St. Mary's School together for 8 years. I remember his mother and father. They were lovely people. Tommy was always smiling, a great kid to grow up with and a true, loyal friend. Rest in peace Tommy.

Dear McAteer family : Your dad was one of the most wonderful human beings I`ve ever met. He was a great friend and colleague. He was a kind and gentle man who knew how to make us all laugh and smile with his great sense of humor. I`ll always remember Tom riding his bycycle through Cambridge or Charlestown He`d always wave and had a smile and a good word for everyone. It always made you feel good to see Tommy around town or around campus. Your dad made a lot of people happy .It saddens me to hear of his passing he was one of my best friends. Know that he loved you all!

Tommy McAteer was one of those rare people whom no one who knew him will ever forget. He taught us all how to smile through adversity and enjoy life, to its fullest. I knew Tom both as a colleague at MIT and a co-worker at charitable events for Mount St. Joseph Academy and saw him boost the spirits of all those around him in both those contexts. We will deeply miss his physical presence but his spirit will always be with us.
