McELROY, Thomas D. Of Westwood, died March 28th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Regina K. (McGee) McElroy for 58 years. Loving father of John F. of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael J. and his wife Tracey of Natick, William A. of Walpole and the late Thomas D. McElroy Jr. Devoted grandfather of John E. and Brendan T. McElroy. Brother of Rev. John W. McElroy of Palm Coast, FL, and Charles A. McElroy of Brazil. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St (off Rte 109) WESTWOOD, on Tuesday, March 31st from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon, April 1st at 12:30 p.m. in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St, Westwood. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas' memory to the Thomas D. McElroy Jr. Scholarship Fund at Boston College. Thomas was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Era.

Very sorry I did not learn of Coach McElroy's passing until today. Have fond memories of Coach McElroy hitting hard grounders to us in infield practice, insisting that we hustle on and off the diamond, and that we always show up to the field with our uniforms on. Also think of his special bases loaded pick off play to second base whenever one of the teams I coach is in that jam and needs an out. I can hear his shouts of encouragement from the benches in Westwood, Foxboro, Needham, etc. as I write this. Such a great role model as a parent, coach, and citizen. Very sorry to hear he is gone but blessed that I had my time with him.

I had the pleasure of working with Regina and Tom (and the boys) on numerous golf tournaments honoring their late son. Through my relationship with the McElroys I was able to witness the sincerest form of commitment and compassion. Their love for their family and friends was always apparent in everything they did. I just learned of Tom's passing today and was heartbroken. My thoughts and prayers are with Regina and the entire McElroy Family.

REGINA & THE ENTIRE FAMILY:NEEDLESS TO SAY BOTH MYSELF AND MY WIFE WERE SHOCKED AND SADDENED WHEN A MUTUAL FRIEND INFORMED US OF TOM,S PASSING.TOM AND I GO WAY BACK TO 1947 WHEN WE PLAYED CYO BASKETBALL FOR ST JOSEPH,S IN SOMERVILLE.TOM WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OBTAINING A BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP AT BOSTON COLLEGE.I WILL MISS HIS E-MAILS & HUMOR.
TOM WOULD VISIT OUR HOUSE ON RETURNING FROM A BASKETBALL WORKOUT.HE WOULD SHOW PICTURES OF HIS GRAND CHILDREN & HOW PROUD HE WAS TO MENTION THE ATTRIBUTES OF HIS SONS,HIS BROTHERS & ABOVE ALL HIS LOVELY WIFE REGINA.TOM WAS ONE OF A KIND.HE WAS THE MOST ORGANIZED MAN I EVER MET AND A GREAT FRIEND.I REGRET THAT HIS PASSING WAS UNKNOWN TO ME BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH HIS FAMILY AND SHARE THE NUMEROUS EXPERIENCES I HAD WITH TOM.

Tom and I shared a great relationship, through basketball. We played together in a Boston tournament less than a year ago....and, he played great as always. My wife, Ruth, and I are devastated. We found out about his passing April third..and, sadly missed attending his funeral. I can honestly say that Tom was the most liked and respected man I ever met. I will miss him greatly. Our love to Regina, Father Jack and, all of the McElroy family.

Words cannot describe how sad I was when I heard of Tom's passing. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was truly a boss that anyone would want to have -- family first was his motto and he made sure we all followed that route as well. Rest in Peace Tom.

I met Tom in 1978 at Raytheon. Have always considered myself lucky to have known him, worked with him, and counted him as a friend. He was an incredible friend to my husband, Bobbie Ingram. Thru out his life, Tom made a positive impact on so many. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Tom passing. Tom was a great guy and a good friend! He had a special way about him especially with people. He made everyone feel special. He will be missed! I worked for Tom in the Proposal Center with lots of stress and he made us all think we were at Shanghai having a great time and most of the time he had us believing it was true. He was a great family man and so proud of the Tom McElroy's Scholarship Fund. Tom treated everyone like we were all part of his family. He will always be part of everyone's heart.

Rest in Peace, Mr. McElROY. A true gentleman and legendary baseball coach. Tom not only taught me how to pitch and many of us the game of baseball, but more important, life lessons that we would carry the rest of lives.
