With heavy hearts and deep regrets we say goodbye to one of Boston's most memorable. We are thankful to Thomas Menino for all the contributions he made to improve both our country and the city of Boston. Be assured that a man of such integrity is highly valued and is indeed precious in God's eyes. (Psalm 72:14)

Mrs. Menino, family and friends. Mayor Menino was a true Boston celebrity. He was well known everywhere, but Boston was his baby, and for the years he served the city, he was a man of integrity, and so easy to love. To watch him on television was like watching the Oscars. I never met the Mayor, and like so many, I wish I had. I know Mayor Walsh will honor his position as Mayor, and do the best he can, but there will NEVER be another Mayor like Mayor Menino. He was so unique. The people of Boston felt secure, and believed in the Mayor. Mr. Tom was a gentleman. He loved his family and close friends, and he loved what he did every day. He ran the city, made it safer, created jobs, improved the look of the already beautiful city. He went beyond the call of duty. He always wanted to be involved with anything that Boston was doing, from sunrise to sunset, and even after that. Mayor Menino, rest in peace. My wife and I, as well as millions will never forget you. How could we? The lives you touched, the quality of your character will forever be in the hearts of so many. Mayor Walsh is going to have a tough job ahead, and Boston believes he can carry on the tradition of what a hard working dedicated Mayor is all about. I don't live in Boston, but the way Mayor Menino conducted himself, made everyone feel he was not just the Mayor of Boston, but EVERYWHERE from one end of the state to the other. because we all LOVED him.

As a City Councilor Tom Menino championed the cause of people with mental illness. He was offended by policies that left many out on the streets and advocated on their behalf. As Mayor, he continued Boston's legacy of care and concern for our homeless neighbors. As President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, he opened the door to encourage his fellow mayors to plan to end the homelessness of the most vulnerable and disabled. And he understood that housing was the prime antidote to get that work done. We shall miss his good-natured presence on the front lines of the abolition of homelessness.
