My condolences to the family of Tom Tighe. He was as nice a man as can be. When I first ventured out of New York for a nice place to visit I was fortunate enough to discover the Ogunquit House and the wonderful man who ran it. I've been going there since, for 24 years. Tom made you feel so relaxed and comfortable at his place it was wonderful to go there during any one of the four season. Wish I still had one of his Christmas cards with a picture of the house all decorated. I feel like a part of me is gone as well.

I just reconnected with Tom the end of July this year after 13 years . My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Tom's new place sitting around the table with some old and some new friends. At least we were able to share a drink of Mccallen single malt scotch together before we left. His place was always a gathering place of kindred souls from all over the world and he always made you feel welcome. His Christmas displays every year were wonders to behold. I was deeply saddened last night to learn of his sudden death when I returned back to Santa Fe and will deeply miss future visits to the Ogunquit House and the incomparable Tom Tighe.

Tom’s caring and nurturing nature coupled with rooted morals, ardent honesty and uncompromising principles made him a wonderful boss, an outstanding mentor and a cherished friend. He will be missed more than words can ever express. God blessed us all with the privilege of knowing Tom. Our prayers and condolences to all of Tom’s family and friends.

Our sympathy to Tom's family. He was a man of integrity and unconditional love. We have known and stayed at Tom's B&B for about 20 years. We have met so many wonderful people through Tom and our stays in Ogunquit. He had a statue of ST. Frncis in his garden that he loved. I believe he manifested the ST. Francis prayer "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace" His life was one of bringing peace and love to all he met. He brought people together from all parts of the country. Tom was proud of having a place where people could be themselves and share many stories, laughter and love. His light will shine through all who knew Tom. You will be truly missed by us.

Ogunquit will never be the same for me again. I always told Tom, I only come here to be with you Tom, the beach comes second. I will miss sitting on the deck at 5pm sharp having our drink and telling stories. I can hear that hardy laugh now in my head. I can never go back to Ogunquit again, he was Ogunquit and now its gone for me. God bless you my friend, until we meet again and enjoy a scotch together.

The passing of Tom Tighe will be a huge loss for Ogunquit. What a wonderful human being. He always had such wonderful things to say, about everyone that touched his life. His laugh, so hardy you would end up in a full belly roll yourself. He loved a crowed, and sharing a good story and a beverage with all his guests and a few extras. His kindness is unsurpassed. I for one of so many will miss him greatly,His enthusiasm and will to carry on through all he has been through is a true testament of his faith and zest for life.
until we meet again
good bye for now

"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." (Mother Teresa).
Tom was much more than just a drop in the ocean; he was an extraordinary human being. Our ocean of life has been enriched by how Tom brought people from different parts of the world together and helped foster lasting friendships. His welcoming smile, his laugh, his love of storytelling captured his audience. He will be truly missed by all who had the privilege to be part of his life. To his family and close friends, we extend our sincere sympathy and hope that the fond memories you hold in your hearts will help you through this difficult time.

I am saddened to hear of Tom's death. I had some great times back in the 60's with Tom and several of his friends. I will always remember Senior week at Bentley, Bill's cottage in Biddeford Pool and many of my brother Bob's parties. We shared some great times. I have never forgotten Tom and never will. My best to the Tighes, a very nice family. So sorry for such a big loss.

I was very lucky to have spent the last weekend in July with Tom at his B&B. He seemed very happy, and overjoyed at the fact that many old friends would drop by to see him. He has always been supportive of me in difficult times, and you could not ask for a better, more sincere friend. Ogunquit will never be the same for me now.

My prayers are with the Tighe family. Tom was a wonderful, caring man. I will miss seeing him in town.

When I first stayed at Ogunquit House many years ago, in a casual conversation, Tom and I were both surprised to realize that his father and my mother knew each other as children. They were literally "back yard" neighbors! Tom was a wonderful, happy, and ever-gracious man, who couldn't do enough for you. I will keep in my heart his friendship, be grateful for the many amiable conversations we shared, and admire the understated way that Tom enriched the lives of many.

I only had the opportunity to meet Tom once, as a guest in his home, but we had a delightful time and I had hoped to have many return visits and to get to know him better. He was a delightful person and I am deeply saddened by his untimely death I extend my heartfelt sympathy to all of his friends and loved ones.

I think I speak for all of Tom's friends when I write that the world has lost one of the kindest and gentlest men. A sparkling light has been extinguished from our lives and the town of Ogunquit, where Tom seemed to know everyone; the mention of his name brought a smile to whomever one was speaking. I had the pleasure of Tom's friendship for (12) years, and his passing marks the end of an era...one that I shall miss terribly. I find good fortune in the many friends I have made through Tom's introductions; as E.M. Forster wrote..."only connect"...Tom did that beautifully. Good-bye, my friend.

From the moment I met Tom back in 1986, I knew he was a special person. He had a gentle, kind personna with a smile that would light up a room. Being around Tom was always a wonderful time of laughter, good conversation and cheer. He made everyone he met feel special when in reality , he was the special person. He brought out the goodness in everyone around him. Without a doubt, a person I will never, ever forget. My deepest sympathy to his relatives and loved ones.

I count myself very fortunate to have known Tom as a friend and frequent guest in Ogunquit, Maine for the past 20+years. He was the most optimistic man I have ever met and as more than one of my friends have said over the years after meeting him for the first time.. "He is the nicest man I ever met!". He was a man that tied hundreds of people together with the bond of friendship and will be very much missed. Craig Downing
