THOMAS WROE Obituary

WROE, Thomas Jr. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, trusted advisor and leader Thomas Wroe, Jr., a beloved husband, father and grandfather, whose life was defined by his love for family, commitment to excellence in business and unwavering dedication to his community, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, to Thomas Wroe, Sr., Tom's curiosity and drive shaped his life. He earned an Engineering degree from the University of Rhode Island before starting his career at Texas Instruments (TI) in 1972. He played a key role in the sale of TI's Sensors and Controls division to Bain Capital, leading to the creation of Sensata Technologies, which he helped transform into a global leader. After retiring from Sensata, he continued working with Bain, contributing to a variety of successful ventures. Tom also chaired several corporate and philanthropic boards, including Sensata, Apex Tool Group, Cape Cod Healthcare, the United Way of Attleboro and Associated Industries of Massachusetts, while serving on others, such as Chase Corporation, Boston College Carroll School of Management, GT Advanced Technologies, Ecore International and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable. Known for his humility and integrity, he mentored many, inspiring generations of leaders. To Tom, leadership was about making a difference and leaving a lasting impact. His life was defined by integrity, generosity and kindness. Tom forged an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Tom's greatest joy was found in his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lisa Griffin Wroe, his two sons, Justin (Kristy) and Evan; and his three stepsons, John Griffin (Sarah), Matt Griffin (Lesley) and Stephen Griffin (Jen). He was always there - encouraging them, coaching them and cheering loudly from the sidelines. A trusted advisor, he readily offered career and life advice, never imposing, but instead sharing his wisdom in a way that helped each of them navigate their paths with confidence. Tom prided himself on supporting others without seeking recognition. Known affectionately as "Gramps," Tom had an immeasurable love for his seven grandchildren, Weston, Mike, Jack, Charlie, Katie, Caroline and James. He was the heart of every family celebration, filling the room with infectious laughter, captivating stories and a warm presence. Tom truly relished his time spent with family and his home was always a place of laughter and love. Tom's passion for golf and tennis brought him joy and lasting friendships at the Dennis Yacht Club, Great Harbor Yacht Club, Mediterra and Cummaquid Golf Club. His love for adventure also took him to Waterville Valley, where skiing became a cherished tradition. His spirit, dedication and warmth will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Services, in Massachusetts and Florida, will be announced at a later date. Please join us in remembering Thomas Wroe Jr. during Visiting hours to be held, at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, SOUTH DENNIS, MA 02660, on Wednesday, February 26, from 4pm-6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

With deepest sympathy to Tom's family. So very sorry for your loss.
Our lives crossed paths at Texas Instruments. Having joined TI three years prior to Tom's arrival, we knew each other then as young colleagues and then 30 years later I worked for Tom for 5 years prior to TI's sale of M&C to Bain and my retirement from TI. Tom's loyalty to me personally will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Tom.
