VINCENT ARONE Obituary

ARONE, Vincent J. Vincent J. Arone was born on March 25, 1921 in Watertown, MA. He was one of 6 children, the son of Dominic and Jenny Arone. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Marie P. (Leone) Arone. Together they raised 5 children. He is survived by his daughters, Justine Milberg (John) of Bainbridge Island, WA and Cynthia Young (Peter) of Medway, MA; and his son Vincent Arone, Jr. (Nancy Young) of Hopedale, MA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased 2 daughters, Jane Antonellis, Nancy Bassett (Edward); and 2 grandchildren, Matthew Antonellis and Allison Bassett. He is also survived by his sister Bea Tennon of Mission Viejo, CA. After graduation from Watertown High School, he joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Guam. He flew multiple missions in a B-24 bomber during World War II. Upon returning home, he met his wife Marie and they were married in 1947. He attended Boston College while raising his family, and then did graduate work at Boston University, where he received his Master's and Doctorate degrees. While working on his graduate degrees, he worked at Newton Public Schools in special education. He was at the forefront of the special education movement in Massachusetts public schools, where he worked with both the intellectually impaired, as well as gifted students. Vincent practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist for the remainder of his professional life. In 1960, he and his wife Marie moved to Hopedale, MA, where they founded The Ledges School, a residential educational facility for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Together, they worked side-by-side growing the business, while raising their own family. Subsequent to Marie's death in 2005, Dr. Arone became involved in the community, serving for 6 years on the Hopedale School Committee and teaching CCD for the Sacred Heart Church. In his later years, he served as treasurer on the Board of The Hopedale Foundation. Additionally, Dr. Arone served for many years on the Board of Catholic Charities of Boston, he was inducted in the Knights of Malta, and he served on the Board of the National Guild of Catholic Psychiatrists. Dr. Arone was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Hopedale A Calling Hour will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 10AM-11AM in the Sacred Heart Church of Hopedale, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Burial to follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Rt. 16, Hopedale.
