VINCENT JOYCE Obituary

JOYCE, Vincent F. Known by all as Skip, age 70, of Cape Coral, FL, and formerly of Melrose, MA, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, surrounded by his family. Skip is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, his beloved twins, Phyllis Joyce and Michael (April) Joyce, his sister Kathleen (Phil) Taymor, niece Juliana Taymor, and many other close family and friends, including Sandra Barbati Joyce and the LaFortune and Dunkley families. He is the son of the late Vincent F. and Catherine Mandrachia Joyce. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944, in Medford, MA, grew up in Everett, MA, and graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1962. Skip received his B.A. of History in 1968 and Masters of Education / Guidance in 1974 from Salem State College, and then worked in the Woburn, MA, school system for 35 years as a guidance counselor. He was passionate about the Woburn school system and generously gave his time to the students and community. He served as head coach of the Woburn High School soccer team and was instrumental in the development of a city-wide soccer program, which is still going strong today. Skip was an avid athlete throughout his life, enjoying soccer, skiing, golf, biking, running and baseball. In 1955, at the age of 11, he played in the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, PA. In 2013, on his 69th birthday, with his daughter and wife, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of going to The Masters in Augusta, GA, where Tiger Woods and Fred Couples wished him a happy birthday. Following his retirement in 2002, Skip and Joyce relocated to Cape Coral, FL. Skip had a very active and fulfilling retirement and loved spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and "skippering" his boat "Joyce Too". He enjoyed the beach and traveling the world, most recently taking a cruise to Tahiti with Joyce. Skip will always be remembered as the life of the party, so please join the family in celebrating his life on July 11, 2014, 6-10 p.m., at Spinelli's on Route One South in Lynnfield, MA. (The GPS address is 10 Newbury Street, Peabody, MA.) In lieu of flowers, please send your contributions in memory of Skip Joyce to the MGH Stroke Research Center (Massachusetts General Hospital-Fund 028184, MGH Development Office, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114) or to support Cystic Fibrosis research (Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760).

Skip and Joyce were our beach buddies in Ocean Park Maine where they would spend their summers. We loved to hear all of Skip's stories and always would enjoy seeing them back for the summer with Kathy, Phil and Jules. God bless and always know you have great support amongst neighbors and friends in Ocean Park.

Skip and Joyce were the first to welcome us to the neighborhood in Cape Coral when we move here in 2004. They honored us with a surprise gathering of neighbor and a 'Welcome to the Neighborhood" cake in our honor.
Bonnie and I will miss seeing Skip walking the neighborhood with Joyce enjoying every moment of life.
Skip you will be sadly missed by all who knew you!
