WALTER LACEY

1938 - 2022

LACEY, Walter Of Hyannis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, surrounded by his wife and two daughters. He was 84 years old. Walter was born on July 25, 1938, to Walter J., Sr. and Mary A. Lacey; the youngest of four children. In 1962, he graduated from Boston University with a degree in Education. After University, Walter served six years in the Army Reserves.

Not far from the ski slopes he loved, Walter met Debbie and the two were married in 1969. The couple moved to the Cape in 1974 and quickly fell in love with the area, deciding to make it their permanent home. In April 1979, Walter started Lacey Construction and continued to operate the business until his retirement in 2017. Walter was an avid skier and soon after their marriage, he and Debbie built a ski chalet in the town where they had first met. Many happy family memories were made there; playing fiercely competitive board games and exploring nature. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling out west to visit his daughters and many national parks. His love of nature and wildlife remained with him until his final days.

Walter is survived by his loving wife Deborah A. (Sheehy) Lacey and their two daughters, Darlene Lacey Millard (Robert C. Millard III) of Park City, UT and Karyn Lacey Rudis (Todd J. Rudis) of Heber City, UT. He was affectionately known as "Papoo" to his grandson Dylan. He is loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road in MARSTONS MILLS, from 9:00am-10:00am. A Funeral Mass will be held shortly thereafter at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
