WALTER LANG Obituary

Lang, Walter E.
83, of Harwich MA passed away peacefully at home on June 11 after declining health due to heart failure. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Anne (McCarron), his granddaughter Christine Sutherland, his sister Madeline Gillespie and brother Robert Lang. He is survived by his sisters Marjorie Pothier, Peggy MacGillivrary, and Louise Healey. He is also survived by his children Anne and Phil Sutherland of Andover, MA, Walter and Kay Lang of Nashville, TN, John and Nancy Lang of Lynnfield, MA, Karen Lang and Debbie Clarke of Worcester, MA, Richard and Candace Lang of Clayton, NC, and Kevin and Kathy Lang of Pembroke, MA. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren: Lindsay, Leanne and Bryan Sutherland, Meredith, Kathleen, Tara and John Lang, Allison, Michael, and Chris Lang, and Erin and Samantha Lang. Walter was born and raised in Charlestown, MA and was very proud of his Charlestown roots, returning each year for the Charlestown Schoolboy reunions. He played football for the Charlestown Washies. Walter attended Malden Catholic High School, where he met his future wife Anne. He graduated from Boston College, and then served proudly as a Marine in the Korean War. He returned from Korea to marry his high school sweetheart. He and Anne raised their family in Danvers, MA, living there for 34 years before retiring to Cape Cod. Walter and Anne enjoyed lots of traveling during retirement, seeing much of the US together. They spent many winters in Naples, Florida where Walter developed a love for golf. He was a passionate sports fan, cheering on any and all Boston teams. He was a season ticket holder for Boston College football, attending games with friends, and later the Cape Cod BC club. He acted as secretary for the Cape Cod chapter of Mass Citizens for Life. He was devoted to his family and his faith. He will be missed. Visitation will be held on Friday in the Mackey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., DANVERS, from 5pm-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9am in St. Mary's Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial at Bourne National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Walter Lang to the Massachusetts General Hospital Heart Center, c/o Dr. Michael Fifer, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114."
