Of North Carolina, formerly of Randolph and Brockton, it is with heavy hearts, the Crayton family regrets to announce the passing of our beloved father. His sharp wit, dry sense of humor, warm heart, and generous spirit will be deeply missed. William (Bill/Billy) Russell Crayton, Sr. of Brockton, MA, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the age of 79. After several months of declining health, Bill died peacefully in his sleep.
Bill was born in Brockton on November 28, 1942, to father, Charles Crayton; and mother, Valerie Crayton. The second son of four children, Bill was a graduate of Randolph High School and attended Bentley University, where he studied Accounting. Bill enlisted in the Army and served from 1961-1964, he was stationed in Germany, France, and California.
After Bill's service in the Army, he returned home and shortly thereafter met his beloved wife, Claire. Bill and Claire's marriage lasted a beautiful 53 years. Bill began his career in the Banking industry, where he worked as Branch Manager for Boston Five Cents Savings Bank and later as Branch Manager for U.S. Trust Bank. Bill also devoted many years to the Kiwanis Club of Boston and served as Treasurer for the Boys Scouts of America, Roxbury Chapter. Bill was a dedicated runner, beginning his passion for track and field in high school and even running in the Boston Marathon in 1968. He continued this passion throughout his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Elaine Crayton; his parents; and by his brother, Charles Crayton. He is survived by his children, Kyle Crayton, Lauren Crayton, Audrey Crayton-Pressley, and William (Billy) Crayton, Jr.; grandchildren, Isaiah Crayton and Dwight Goodwin; and great-granddaughters, Alana Crayton and Sophia Crayton; two sisters, Marjorie Warren and Muriel McGinn. All held him in the highest regard and loved him dearly.
A Graveside Service for Bill is planned for Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:45 AM at Bourne National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Buzzards Bay, MA 02542. All are invited to attend.
