Claudette Bailey Obituary

BAILEY Claudette Alethia, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on April 2, 2016, at the age of 65. Born September 25, 1950, to Casley Alexander Bailey and Lucille Ionie Joseph Bailey, Claudette grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, attending Camperdown High School before leaving for the United States in September, 1969. After beginning a career as an executive assistant at the Deer Island House of Correction, Claudette eventually left to pursue a degree in music at the Leland Powers School of Broadcasting in Brookline Mass (1976-1978). She excelled in her coursework, and after earning her degree, landed a job working at local radio station WRBB (“WRBB 88.9 on your FM dial”). During this time, she also opened Unique Auto Accessories in Brookline and founded the production company Roadshow Productions. Her undeniable charm as a radio personality and her passion for networking made her a hit at both local community and statewide events. Claudette’s tireless dedication to the community led her to eventually pursue a career with the Boston Parks and Recreational Department. From her post, she coordinated numerous citywide events, including the [Boston] Kite Festival and the Mayor’s Youth Summit. In addition, she played a key role in the revitalization of the city’s park system, assisting with the selection of contractors and bidding process. Though Claudette loved her work at the Parks Department and brought to it seemingly endless enthusiasm, her long battle with sickle cell anemia eventually forced her to retire. Wishing to put her retirement to good use, Claudette devoted herself to the Grant A&E Church in Boston, Massachusetts, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a trustee. Although her family and friends were primarily in Boston, by this time a piece of Claudette’s heart belonged in Florida, and there was nothing she loved more than the trips to Miami she would often take with her grandchildren Bailey & Madison. In 2013, she finally packed her things and made the move to Pembroke Pines, Florida, where she became a member of Sheridan Hill Baptist Church. Ever since she was a young girl in Kingston, Claudette loved the Lord, and she lived every day of her life serving Him. Although the doctors there told her from a young age that her disease meant she would never live past the age of 18, it was her unwavering faith in Christ that gave her 65 beautiful years on this earth and a loving family with whom to share it. Claudette was loved by many and will always be remembered whether by her smile or her dark sunglasses or her astonishing ability to love and care for others. Claudette was preceded by her sister Patricia Elaine Bailey-Wallen and her brother Clive Alexander Bailey. She leaves behind her beloved children, Michelle Bailey, Ashley Vass-Bailey, and Casley Vass, her two dear grandchildren, Bailey Jane Merchant and Madison Vass; her brothers, Winston Tavares and Locksley Bailey; two sisters, Beverly Tavares and Hopa Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves relatives and friends who love her dearly. Her going home service will be Saturday April 30, 2016 11:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M at School Master Hill Franklin Park Dorchester Mass. Flower Donations or well wishes may be sent to Michelle Bailey 33 Jones Ave., Apt 1 Dorchester Ma 02124. Sleep on Dear One and go take your restWe all love you dearly, but Jesus loves you best A light from our household is gone A voice we loved is stillA place in our vacant hearts that can NEVER be filled!

We were Soul Train Claudette, and Disco Tech Mike back in "79" playing the hits all over the streets of Boston for Mayor Whites "Summerthing" program. You went to Parks and I City Hall but our paths crossed often over the years always thinking of the fun times we had. I am deeply saddened by the news of your passing. My deepest condolences to your family. Everytime I play Donna Summers "Last Dance" I will always think of Claudette! RIP in that DJ booth in the sky!

Babe,no one will ever truly know the love that we shared. I am glad that we finally talked about us & everything that happened to us. It gave us both closure & I thank you for that. We both felt so good afterwards. There are so many what ifs in my head as you know. I always said to you every time that we talked that I was still in love with you. Only you and I know that is true. I love you and have been missing everyday for the past 4 years. Rest my love, no more pain or suffering. See you soon. Kenneth
