Edward Merrifield Obituary

MERRIFIELD Edward L. Jr., 54, of Lowell, MA died January 15, 2015. Edward was born March 25, 1960 in Cambridge, MA of Edward L. Merrifield and Claire A. Saulnier-Merrifield. Edward graduated from the Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, MA. He then proudly served in the U.S. Army in their Airborne Unit as a Paratrooper, CSC 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry, in Fort Hood, TX, and was honorably discharged and retired after being combat injured. He earned an Associates of Science Degree from Quincy College, achieving the Academic Award Certificate of Highest Honors. As well, Edward was certified as a member of The National Dean’s List, and was also inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society, International Scholastic Order. Edward is survived and deeply mourned by his family- his daughter, Sarah Coakley and her husband Alex Ste. Marie; parents Edward and Claire Merrifield; sister Lynne Broderick and husband Michael, brother David Merrifield and wife Kelly, sister Diane Merrifield-Shamp and brother Stephen Merrifield and wife Lynne; his nieces and nephews Krista, Michael, Andrea, Matthew, Joshua, Jared and Justin; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Edward enjoyed spending time with family, drawing and sketching, reading, trips to Foxwoods and watching his favorite Boston sport teams the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and the Patriots. The gift of Edward’s presence during this past holiday season was a blessing to his family. We had a few precious days together that we will forever cherish. He was in high spirits, loving and joyful; surrounded by the people he loved, and who loved him. Though his life ended too soon, we believe when he passed he was happy and at peace. We will miss him more than he will ever know. Edward will be interned at the Bourne National Veteran’s Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Funeral services will be a private family event. In lieu of flowers, Edward’s family would appreciate donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of his service to our Nation, at: www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

David & family
My deepest sympathy to you at this time. I remember hanging at your house way back when we were in the 6th grade, riding bikes over jumps(with some minor injuries) and just generally having a good time. LYM <3
