Francis Gilmore Obituary

(Frank) G. Gilmore, recently of Nashua, NH, passed away on his 90th birthday, on December 21, 2020, at home with his stepdaughters, Ellen and Lorraine by his side. When his wife, Roberta passed away in 2010, he set a goal to reach his 90th birthday. He reached that goal, even with his long-term health issues.

The son of Francis and Mary (White) Gilmore, he was born on December 21, 1930. He was raised in Boston. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was trained as a mechanic, fixing tanks and jeeps. Okinawa is where he learned to play golf with his Army buddies. He loved the game.

He is survived by his youngest brother James Gilmore, and predeceased by his sisters and brother Jean, Alice, Marie and Joseph.

With his first wife (Irene), he was father to daughters Theresa (Gilmore) Lahey (deceased) and Irene Gilmore and a son, Francis Gilmore and wife Ima Gilmore. He has 6 grandchildren (Meghan, Brendan, Heather, Abigaile, Alexandra, Francis) and 3 great granddaughters (Jada, Evelyn and Sofia). He is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well.

He was beloved husband to Roberta (Jones) Lurvey Gilmore. They married in 1983. She predeceased him in 2010. His stepchildren were Lorraine Lurvey, Ellen (Lurvey) Discipio, and husband Paul Discipio, Steven Lurvey and David Lurvey. He had 3 additional granddaughters (Katie, Julia and Meghan).

A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed family time. He was a generous, dependable, honest, detail orientated, reserved and gentle family man. He treated everyone with respect. When he retired, he loved to cook family dinners and host family parties.

He retired as a Plant Manager from US Plastics in Lynn in 1993, where he took up golf again. He was a successful businessman who traveled across the country for various employers over his career. He was self-taught when it came to upgrading and repairing computers.

Services will be held when Covid restrictions are lifted. Masks and Social Distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
