Joan Frances Berger

1946 - 2021

(Vanosdol), 75, of Buzzards Bay, MA passed away at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis on Saturday May 1, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born to the late Gilbert and Mary Vanosdol (McLaughlin) in South Boston on March 26, 1946. They were all from South Boston/Buzzards Bay, MA.

Joan grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. She was heavily involved in volunteer work with the elderly community in town and could frequently be found at the Community Building and the Community Café. One of Joan's favorite things to do was drive around in her best friend Joyce's Mustang Comfortable.

She is survived by her husband Allen Lee Berger of 54 years in marriage, her sons; James Berger of Bedford, MA, Douglas Berger of Buzzards Bay and daughter Kelly Berger also of Buzzards Bay. She is also survived by two Grandchildren, Carmella and Cecilia of Buzzards Bay. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and tending to her prized Christmas Cactus which was grown by her mother who passed away in 1998.

She worked at the Cape Cod Nursing Home working with Alzheimer's patients as a CNA from 1980-2000 reluctantly retiring after 20 years to continue her volunteer work with the communities elderly.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 7, 2021 at 11:30AM, St. Margaret's Parish on Main St. in Buzzards Bay, burial will be private. Visiting Hours will be Friday from 9-11AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA. A Celebration of Joan's life will be held right after Mass at the Mezza Luna, Main St. Buzzards Bay. The family wishes to extend the invitation to all.

She was loved by her family and was a second mother to many in the community. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
