My condolences to his family. I went to Suffolk University and we played and had some battles for dominance.
Those were times to remember.

I first met Ray at Hobbs junior high school when Roberts came to play us in eighth grade. I remember here with this very unathletic looking skinny guy that absolutely rocked everybody on the court. The next year I had the pleasure of being a teammate and for the four years I was in high school. Not only a great ball player, but he was a damn nice guy. I went fishing about a month ago on a party boat. I ran into a gentleman and he had a Ray Buckland T-shirt on, and we shared our admiration and affection for Ray. Ray often deflected compliments. When I saw him play against my college team over at Tufts, After I told him how much I enjoyed watching him as he demolished our team, he said "you helped Willie". For me, trying to defend and failing to stop Ray at practice was my daily task. I was Floored when I heard of his passing. Again to Ray's family My prayers go to you. Ray you are missed and will be missed.

It's happening too often in lives that become so busy that we forget an old friend until we hear that they passed. We then go into remembering our friend wishing that we could spend some time once again in laughter, conversation and just plain ole catching up on our present lives.

Miss you Ray,

Buck, we ended up at Bo State, same time, in our respective sports programs.
we crossed paths in hallways and of course, at the gym.
You were the most confident athlete, and leader, on the court, and the most gracious man off the court
It was always good watching the warrior basketball games, you had a good crew and great coaches
We also, at that time, even crossed paths in the summer months, at entertainment locations.
My condolences to your family, and RIP big man, you
affected a lot of lives

As a teammate the greatest, as a person most superior in heart. Boston State is where I first played bball with Ray. In 1977 we won the Div. 3 Northeast Championship. We were the ultimately best in Mass when it came to our Division, We beat everyone. Ray you will be greatly missed as you were appreciated in life as well. You are ectched in my legacy for the 22-2 season where our song." Ain't no stopping us now" love ya dude!

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Ray's friends and family especially his wife Robin(She cut my hair before I moved to Florida) his son, mother and sister. I would also like to say how sorry I am to the Bates family especially Mark who I know was like a brother to Ray. The one thing I remember the most about knowing Buck was he treated everyone the same. It didn't matter if you were a star athlete, a non star athlete a friend or a co worker. Once you knew Buck you knew him for life. He was a legend in Medford, Lynn, and greater Boston as a friend, team mate and athlete. We will never forget him. The picture is from when he came out of retirement as a favor to me in June 1991 to play pickup basketball with our friends form Harris Park Malden Catholic and Melrose.

My condolences goes out to the family and friends. Everything that has been written has been my experience with Ray. Competitive on the court and a good friend off the court. Always enjoyed time spent with Ray. He was one of those unique individuals that when you got together you always felt you were in a good place and you would come away with a friend that cared about you.

You will be missed by those who have known you and those who didn't get the chance.

I offer my sincere condolences to Ray´s wife Robin, son Sean, mom Elaine and sister Patricia. I was one of the lucky ones to have had Ray as a friend for many years. We first met in Boston in 1976; where else but on a basketball court! We initially were opponents during many intense pick-up games, but fortunately for me we eventually were teammates. Everyone knows Ray was a superb basketball player. He was relentless and unstoppable. But in my opinion, he was an even finer person! I know I am a better person for having known Ray, who always seemed to be smiling as if he knew something the rest of us didn´t know. He was fun to be around, up-beat, unpretentious and treated everyone the same - with dignity and respect. Ray is no longer with us, but he will never be forgotten. Buck´s legend and legacy will live forever. May he R.I.P. *MikeG.*
