ANTHONY KORFMAN Obituary

ANTHONY KORFMAN Anthony "Tony" Korfman, age 71, of Boulder City, passed away Aug. 18, 2014. He was born Nov. 13, 1942, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Arthur and Emilia Gallo Korfman. Tony graduated from the University of San Francisco and married his wife, Linda in Carson City in 1966. Tony moved from Lake Tahoe to Las Vegas in 1969. In 1979, he moved to Boulder City. Tony was known as a workaholic and had a very successful career as a general manager of several casinos, including the Gold Strike and the Edgewater. He also wrote a series of popular books that are still being sold around the world. He was very generous, devoting money and time to many different local organizations. Many young people were helped by the Michelle Korfman Scholarship Foundation. To some, he was "Mr. Boulder City;" he once served as the Grand Marshal for the Boulder City Fourth of July Parade. Tony loved his community and the people of Boulder City. Tony cared for many people and wouldn't hesitate to give the shirt off his back to help someone. It would be hard to count the number of people Tony touched with his generosity; hardly a day would pass without someone coming up to him and thanking him for his help. At the end of the day, his one true love was enjoying time with his family, listening to music and watching basketball and football. Most of all, he enjoyed making people laugh. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Korfman. Tony is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Linda; five children, Carrie Adamson and her husband, Don, Tamara Korfman, David Korfman, Tony Kerbrat and his wife, Shelly, and Joe Kerbrat; eight grandchildren, Tierney, Torin, Michael, Mikalina, Chase, Carson, Conner and Kendal; and two great-grandchildren, Rowen and Olivia. He is also survived by Mike Curtis and Don Melton, two who were sons in his heart. Celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, 1501 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. Tony was a dear friend of my families, when us kids were growing up,he helped my parents put us through a family rehabilitation center in Texas.I sit here reading letters my Dad wrote him while we were at the family center and when my Dad was in prison.Tony wanted to give these letters to my Grams, but left them for me.Im just getting around to going through them all,as I knew it woukd be hard.Learning so many things through these letters, but most of all that Tony was a great guy.I remember seeing him last when he came to say hi to me when I was visiting Vegas with friends and he came to the Mandalay Bay where we were staying.I hope I hear back from Linda,Tonys wife, who my Dad mentions many times in these letters or to one of his kids.Tony was and will always be like family. My Dads name is Mike DesVaux,he also passed around 10 years ago.I hope they are in heaven together.

I was just now watching TV and a commercial came on showing Elvis singing American Trilogy...it made me think of Tony and I wondered how he was doing. Googling him I am so saddened to learn of his passing. Tony was such a kind wonderful generous man and friend...he gave me a very big break to perform my magic show at the Goldstrike Casino in Tunica, MS. I think of Tony all the time and remember his funny story about meeting Elvis in an elevator in Tahoe back in the day. I can never thank him enough for all of his kindnesses and will long remember his generosity and wonderful spirit. My heartfelt condolences to Linda and his family...wish you all happiness and peace.

I remember the day Tony called from Las Vegas asking how to get back to B.C. after a few hints he found his way to the right hwy. His sense of direction was much slower than his sense of humor! So I'm sure he will be laughing with you.

A gaming icon and a best friend was lost to us. He watched over me and my family as if we were his own. The loss is devastating to us and all who knew and loved him in Boulder City.

Tony will be missed by so many people. He did so many nice things for those that were less fortunate, and he never needed any acknowledge. Tony hired me for my first job, mentored me as I earned positions of more responsibility, and I learned many things from him. I am lucky to have known him. It is hard to pass by Boulder City and not think of the big guy. I hope all that knew him can think of the joy he brought to many and not dwell on the loss of this great man.

TONY gave me my first dealing job back in 88 He was kind and funny but very smart.I enjoyed working for him at the Gold Strike He once reprimanded me for giving away my tips to a stranded woman with 2 little kids.He explained that the casino was giving her a room and feeding her and getting broken down car fixed and I needed to keep my money and not listen to every sad story. He was being kind.I said all these years I would have stayed there if we made better money because I liked working for Tony God bless him I am sure his family has an angel to watch over them. sincerely Tina Miceli
