Hermina Visser was born August 18, 1931, to Fred and Alice Dykman near Platte, SD. Hermina was called to her eternal home on the morning of November 7, 2025.
Hermina was the third of four children. She was raised on a farm and attended rural schools in South Dakota. She graduated from high school at Western Christian in Hull, IA. She lived at home a year after graduation before answering God's call to become a teacher. After attending summer school, she began her teaching career at Hull Christian School in Hull, IA. Summers were spent attending summer school. After teaching for five years, she decided to attend Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Ml) for a year. Hermina was then led to venture west to Churchill, MT where she taught at Manhattan Christian School. After a few years of teaching, her path changed for a number of years as she became a wife and mother.
She married Dick Visser on July 23, 1958. God blessed them with four daughters-Linda, Marcella, Almira, and Arvella; and two sons-Ernest and Joel. She raised six children on a farm south of Churchill, MT. She would return to teach at Manhattan Christian School for many years until retirement.
Even in retirement, Hermina remained joyfully active. She could often be found tending her beloved flowers, working at Visser Greenhouses, or studying God's Word through Bible Study Fellowship. She lovingly corrected Bible lessons for prisoners, taught Sunday School, and faithfully served in Friendship Ministries. Later, when she moved into her retirement community, it quickly became her second home. From reading to fellow residents, to laughing and playing games-often quite competitively-Hermina embraced every moment with the same enthusiasm, joy, and grace that had defined her life.
Above all, Hermina cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She created cherished memories through "Grandma Days," cross-country trips to visit loved ones, baking parties in her kitchen, and laughter in the "beauty shop." Her love bloomed in three enduring ways-through her faith, her family, and her flowers.
Hermina's life was a reflection of God's grace-rooted in faith, blooming with love, and radiant in service.
Hermina was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her sisters, Jennie and Alvina; her brother, Kelly; and many in-laws.
She is survived by her six children-Linda (Tom), Ernest, Marcella (Larry), Almira (Tom), Joel (Amy), and Arvella (Doug}; along with 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and dear in-laws, John, Elmer, and Margaret.
Visitation hours will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Wed, Nov 12, at Dokken-Nelson. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 P.M. on Thur, Nov 13, at Hills Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 2 P.M. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Manhattan Christian School or Churchill Retirement Home.
Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
