Melvyce Westphal Obituary

Melvyce (Evenson) Westphal, 80, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 of natural causes, with her family at her side.

Melvyce was born Sept. 9, 1931 in Granville, N.D. to Mary (Harmon) Evenson and Melvin Evenson.

Melvyce was raised and educated in the Minot area and graduated from Minot Model High School in 1949. Melvyce met Bobby, the love of her life, when they were just kids. Melvyce and Robert Westphal were married in Bethany Lutheran Church on Sept. 15, 1949. They lived, worked and raised a family in the Minot area until they moved to Montana in 1973. In Minot, Melvyce worked at Montgomery Wards, the City of Minot for 26 years, the Labor Temple Credit Union and GEM Federal Credit Union. In Montana, Melvyce worked as a bartender, a bookkeeper and then "financial manager" for her son and daughter-in-law's business, Sir Scott's Oasis, in Manhattan, Mont.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (Raymond) Figgins, Scott (Marie) Westphal and their children, Sarah (Dusty) Cardwell, Robyn (Levi) Richter, Robert (Iesha) Westphal, and Marcus Westphal; son, Larry Westphal and his daughter, Cameron (Jim) Parratt; and son, Kelly Dale and his daughter, Alexa Diteman. Melvyce dearly loved her seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Mavis Westphal; brothers-in-law, Doug Amundson and Sidney Coffin, all of Minot and many nieces and nephews. Melvyce is predeceased by her husband, Bob; her parents, Melvin and Mary Evenson; Bob's parents, William and Luella Westphal; sisters, Ardith Coffin and Judith Amundson; brother and his wife, Lehre and Janie Evenson; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Josephine Westphal; and six infant children.

Mom was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and Minot was always home.

Memorials may be sent to your favorite charity. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14 at the Manhattan Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Meadowview Cemetery.
