Sarasota, Florida - Clare P. Loer of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully at Tidewell Hospice, Lakewood Ranch, Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the age of 82.
She was born November 18, 1939, in Bellows Falls, VT, daughter of the late Kenneth and Lucille (La Cross) Porter. She graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, VT, class of 1957. She later earned a degree in Nursing from St. Petersburg Junior College and received a BA in Business Management from Eckerd College in FL. On December 31, 1960, she married the love of her life George (Jerry) W. Loer, Jr in Springfield, VT. Starting her prestigious career, Clare worked as a nurse at Manatee Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital in Sarasota. In 1975 she advanced into management at Upjohn Healthcare, now Olsten Kimberly Quality Care, where she was Vice President of Southeast Operations, until retiring in 1996. Soon after retirement, she found another calling as Executive Director of the local Alzheimer's Association where she helped to provide care for many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry (deceased 1990); and her son, Steven K. Loer (deceased 1989). Clare is survived by her son, Gary A. Loer and his wife, JoAnn of Sarasota, FL; daughter, Kimberly L. Sprague and her husband, Kevin of Sarasota, FL; daughter-in-law, Penny Loer (Steven K.) of Forney, TX; and six grandchildren; Corey B. Loer; Whittany T. Loer; Steven G. Loer; Kayla V. Sprague; Kelsey R. Sprague; Tiffany P. Loer; and a great- grandson, Chandler M. Collins.
Clare cherished the time spent with her family traveling the country with Jerry and her kids in their younger years collecting antiques and beer can memorabilia. She was an avid sports enthusiast, always the first to show up to all her children's and her grandchildren's many activities, she loved her "Gators" along with playing bridge with family and friends.
Clare will be remembered by all she knew as an intelligent, articulate, natural born leader. She instilled in her family and friends the need for honesty, personal responsibility, and accountability. She was always prepared to offer a solution to a problem, a testament to her quick mind and wit. A devoted Mom, "Grammie" and friend to others, she will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. Martha Catholic Church, 220 N Orange Avenue, Sarasota at 12Noon. The family would like to extend an invitation for a "Celebration of Clare" immediately following the service at Michael's on East,1212 S East Ave, Sarasota, FL.

March 30, 2022

We have had so many good times with Clare over the years. Especially the many Gator football games we attended together. She usually brought one of the grandchildren--Stevie, Tiff, Kelsey or Kayla. Ron and Jerry grew up together in Miamisburg, OH. Clare was a good friend and will certainly be missed. Our sincere condolences to the Loer family. God bless
