Daniel McNeely Obituary

Daniel Otho ''Dan'' McNeely, 69, of Bradenton, passed away Wednesday, May 23rd, after a three month battle with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia. He was born in Paris, Tenn., on Sept. 7, 1937, to Otho and Luna McNeely. He moved to Wynnburg, Tenn., after his father's death in 1940, and attended Tiptonville schools from grades 1-12. He moved to Apopka, Fla., in 1958, and then to Bradenton in 1975. Dan made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as a child at Wynnburg Baptist Church Vacation Bible School, and was baptized. He was a member of West Bradenton Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a graduate of Jones Business College in Orlando, Fla. Dan had owned Bradenton Propane, Inc. since 1980. His hobbies were cooking and gardening. He was an avid reader, a print and online ''news junkie'', and frequent e-mail correspondent. Dan will be well remembered for his generosity to others from sharing his gas-grill-cooked specialties, overnighting his homegrown vegetables to relatives, helping college students financially, to providing many specially designed items for his Tiptonville High School classmates in Tennessee for their 50th class reunion. The class honored Dan with their special ''Spirit Award'' for outstanding and inspiring service to the Tiptonville High School, Class of 1955. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Rowena; daughter, Meredith (Fred) O'Brien; three grandchildren, Connor, Dawson and Madeline, all of Duxbury, Mass.; two sisters, Rebecca Dedmon, of Jackson, Tenn., and Patricia (Tommy) Bolen, of Orlando, Fla.; many other relatives and friends; and his faithful employees at Bradenton Propane, all of whom showered him with their love and prayers during his illness. Visitation is 1-3p.m., with services to follow at 3p.m., Sunday, May 27, at Brown and Sons Funeral Homes, 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton. Burial will be Wednesday, May 30th, in Tiptonville City Cemetery in Tennessee. Those who wish to honor Dan and his life, and help others may send donations to Leukemia and Lymphoma, 3507 E. Frontage Road, Suite 300, Tampa, FL 33607, marked ''In memory of Dan McNeely.''

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I am a nursing student who had the pleasure of taking care of Mr. McNeely on one of my clinical weekends and went in to visit him on my next clinical weekend at Blake. He felt so much like family to me after I had gotten to know him and his wife during my short time with him. I prayed for him many times and also had my Preacher A.O. praying for him as well. I hope that everyone in the family is doing well in the wake of their loss. Just keep your heads high and know that he is watching down on you. I only hope that his daughter got to see him one more time. I know she wasn't coming down until sometime in June according to her mom, and I mentioned to her that I would have her come as soon as possible before things did get worse. I only found out about his passing after I had gone back to Blake for another clinical duty this past weekend. It has saddened me but I know that I will always remember Mr. McNeely throught the rest of my schooling. He was a very special man. I know he will be truly missed. May God bless you all. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Kathy

Aunt Rowena & Meredith~ Uncle Dan was a very special man and I am sorry that my husband and girls will never get that opportunity to know him. I will never forget our visits and all of the "gadgets" and new recipies that he had to try out on us (curly fries!). I know that my parents have really enjoyed the opportunity these last few years to come to visit more often and to spend time with Uncle Dan & Aunt Rowena. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Always clowning around and making everyone in his presence happy, while being very serious about his friends and family. You didn’t have to see Dan daily to know he was your friend. He will be missed by many.

Dan was such a dear friend to me and when Don and I married they really took to one another. I will miss his phone calls, we chatted while he cooked and talked back and forth with Rowena. Rowena, I love you and will keep you and yours in my prayers. See you Wednesday.

dan, is not gone from our hearts. he was a buisnessman and he tried to have a crusty shell, and then he was the most kind perosn also. he was proud of the buiness and went to heaven a buisness man. a good husband and a wonderful friend who always could give me a good banter or laughter at a joke. he will be missed, and i feel that his passing is a mark in time for many of us.
dan, the business man. some of us had to take a lesson like years past. the work ethics, and the good
of people in exchange for fairness.
he will remain in my mind, as the most driven of gas service men for the equality of people.
service, was his buisness.
i know today that he is with GOD,
and maybe he will give my service card to GOD before i get there.
( its in his shirt pocket)
i will NEVER forget my friend dan

He was the sweetest man you'd ever meet. From "Cookin with Dan" to a lover of classical music, he had a multi-faceted personality. My life if better for having known him.
