Dave Bristow Obituary

Dave Bristow (59), of Bradenton, FL died Monday, September 24, 2018. Dave was spokesman for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. He was born October 27, 1958 in Lincoln, Illinois, to parents Julius C. and Rosemary (Logs-don) Bristow, and he was married to his wife, Lisa Elaine Kipp, for 35 years. He began his college career at Stetson University where he played basketball before transferring to the University of Florida where he graduated with a degree in broadcasting. While at UF, he worked at WRUF in Gainesville on a radio show called Dial-A-Score with Larry Vettel & Chuck Cooper-stein. A family man, his greatest loves were his wife Lisa and daughters, Courtney (24) and Cara (21). Though, the Florida Gators and St. Louis Cardinals are tied for second place. In addition to his role at the Sheriff's Office, he was an active member of the community. He was the voice of the Manatee Hurricanes, serving as the radio personality for the high school football team's play-by-play since 1985 in "the friendly confines of Joe Kinnan Field at Hawkins Stadium." When his daughters were growing up, he volunteered as a coach for many of their sports teams, most notably the Manatee Twisters softball teams. He was their biggest fan and advocate, both on and off the field. Dave is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Calhoun. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughters, Courtney and Cara, as well as his three brothers, Michael (Karyn) of Englewood, CO, Richard (Bridget) of Anna Maria, FL and James (Sue) of North Palm Beach, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, September 28, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd St. W., Bradenton, FL 34209. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 29, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1616 59th St. W, Bradenton, FL 34209. Graveside Service will follow at Skyway Memorial Gardens with a reception afterword at Bradenton Country Club from 3:30 5p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave's memory may be made to the Manatee Community Foundation. Funds will provide scholarships to Manatee High School Seniors accepted to the University of Florida. Mail checks payable to Manatee Community Foundation to 2820 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34205, with "In Memory of Dave Bristow" on memo line. Condolences to www.brownandsonsfuneral.com. The Bristow's lived next-door to me in North Palm Beach; and Dave was a friend from school and our neighborhood. I have many great memories of the fun we all had back then. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, daughters, and family.

To Lisa and the girls,

Your husband and father was a great man.
There was never a time in 23 years in crossing Dave's path, I was not greeted with a kind word or positive gesture. My condolences and prayers to the family.

Lisa, your husband was a wonderful best friend to my brother Tim. Always kind to an annoying little sister! And, girls, cherish and know you had the best father! So sorry for your loss, words can't describe the sadness we all feel from Dave's absence. You are loved.

I remember the day you started with the Sheriff's Office and getting you set up with your computer and phone. I always figured you would be there when I reached my 50th year in law enforcement. As you always kidded me about how long I have been around. Praying for your family, Lisa, Cara and Court. You will be missed very much.

Dave, I can't believe what I just heard and read! You're still very young and you were always active. I remember seeing you workout in the old District 1 downtown with Sheriff Wells, Bruce Meade, and Ricky Wells. I can remember working in the Crime Lab when it was also at District 1 and when the smell of Ben Gay drifted down to the Crime Lab I knew it was time to go workout and the four of you would already have a head start on Rich Talbot and me! You will never be forgotten as you were a wonderful person and a fixture at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for decades. God bless you brother! I know you're in Heaven looking down waiting on us. Rest in Peace my brother!
