Donald Coutts Obituary

North River businessman, Donald A. Coutts, 73, passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at TideWell Hospice in Ellenton, Fla., following a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was born July 7, 1934, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to Scottish immigrants, the late James Coutts, II, and Sophia Walker Coutts. Don is a 1952 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. Throughout his successful career, Don owned numerous businesses, including travel trailer, automobile, motor cycle, and marine dealerships. He enjoyed boating as well as restoring classic cars. Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Castles); his daughter, Jane Coutts; his daughter, Dawn Laidlaw and her husband, Rob Laidlaw; two grandchildren, Janelle Coutts and Ian Laidlaw; brothers, James Coutts, III, of Parrish, Fla., Alfred Coutts, of Lewiston, N.Y., Bruce Coutts, of Lewiston, N.Y., Neil Coutts, of Grand Island, N.Y.; and a sister, Shirley Cutonilli, of Grand Island, N.Y. In addition to his late parents, another brother, the late Duncan Coutts, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., predeceased him. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many good friends, including his close friends, Richard Verhaeghe, David Bailey, Bill Wasden; and the entire ''gang'' at the Big L restaurant in Ellenton. A memorial service for Donald A. Coutts will be held at 3:30p.m., Saturday, August 11th, at Parrish United Methodist Church, located at the corner of CR 675 and Highway 301 North (at the flashing light), 12180 US 301 N., Parrish, Fla. Pastor, David Misener will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238. We would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that assisted Don over the years, together with all of the caring staff of TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care for their help and support.
