Dortha Hamsher Obituary

98, passed away January 29, 2016. She was born February 17, 1917, to Ervin and Gladys (Chambers) Swank. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hamsher. She is survived by her children, Terry (Hamsher) Beatty and Jim (Gail) Hamsher, two grandchildren Tom (Kim) Beatty and Steve (Ann) Beatty, and five great grandchildren, Max (Caitlin) Beatty, Jackson Beatty, Kelsey (Chris) Everling, Courtney Storer, Sophia Storer and great-great granddaughter, Lillian Everling? Dot was the eldest of 8 children in the Swank family. She is survived by brothers Eldon Swank, Jack (Kay Lou) Swank, and sister Mary Lou (Andy) Ervin. She was preceded in death ?by her brothers, DeVoe Swank and Ted Swank and by sisters Betty (Swank) Mabbott and Beth (Swank) Tyler. Her family members formed a network that spans across the United States. ?Dot had a full life, she was widowed early in life and had to work to support herself and two children and never stopped. She was born in Bremen, raised her family in Nappanee, Indiana where she ?owned a dress shop.? She moved to Florida where she was a lifelong resident of Tropic Isles in Palmetto, Florida. She worked for a small department store and young entrepreneurial owner, Mr. Beall. She was active at the Methodist Church thrift store in Palmetto Florida, She's a card shark at? Euchre and? taught several ?generations? how to play the game she loved.? She loved her time working at Asolo State Theater in Sarasota Florida, and had a passion for the Pirates baseball team during spring training games. But mostly Dot (Dottie, Dortha, Gaga) loved her family, and had the biggest heart and passion for? many causes. She is a beautiful example of living a long, ?loving, and caring life. A memorial service will be held in Bremen, Indiana later this spring.
