Edward Shrum Obituary

Edward Earl Shrum, 76, passed away from a prolonged illness while at home surrounded by family on August 7, 2024, in Rock Hill, SC. Born on July 27, 1948, in Charlotte, NC, Earl was a renowned business owner and a cherished member of his community. He began his career as a salesperson at Vulcraft in Florence, SC. In 1980, Earl and his family moved to Bradenton, FL, where Earl was the owner of Shrum Steel, Inc. for 32 years.

Earl was known for his dynamic personality and generosity. An avid golfer, he found joy in the greens and fairways of his favorite courses. He served as the ABC (Associated Builder and Contractors) Tampa chapter President in 1998, and Bradenton Country Club President in 2005 in addition to many leadership roles in his field during his career.

Beyond his business acumen, Earl was a fabulous father and grandfather, always providing love and guidance to his family. He worked hard so that he could create an extraordinary life for his family. They are forever grateful for the years that he gave them and the memories he made possible. One of their favorites was a trip to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. The family enjoyed it so much, they went back with the grandchildren for Earl and Penny's 40th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Penny Shrum; daughters, Heather and Leslie Shrum; brother, Robert Shrum (Rosie Shrum); sister, CarolAnne Hanks (Billie Hanks, Jr.); grandchildren, Taylor Shrum, Beth Tyler, Micah Tyler, and Clay Kortzendorf; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Earl was preceded in death by his son, Harold Hulon Shrum; and his parents, Helen Frances and Hulon Birdwell Shrum.

Services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC, on Saturday, August 17 at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced in Bradenton, FL.
