Elizabeth Hamrick Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) McRae Hamrick, 89, died on April 15, 2014. Born in McIntosh, Florida, she graduated from Reddick High School and the Florida State College for Women (now FSU). She taught elementary school before marrying David Hamrick in 1948. Together they moved to Bradenton in 1953. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served in numerous roles including church historian. Her church family has served as a blessing to her and her family for over 60 years. She loved gardening and blessing others with flowers from her garden. Beginning in 1973, she began a 40 year research project of family history, resulting in the publication of a book of the family genealogy in 1993. She was a member of The Jamestown Society, the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was predeceased by her husband, David, daughter, Cindy, son, Richard and brother, Andre McRae (Jean). She is survived by three sisters, Cecile Hooks, Patty Powers (Kent) and Eleanor Hummert (Ron) and a brother, Richard McRae (Evelyn), as well as a son, Michael (Anita), a granddaughter, Allison Page (Roberto), three grandsons, Jeff Hamrick, Alex Hamrick (Erin) and Daniel Hamrick and three great grandchildren. In God's grace, this sheep in the Master's fold has now been called home by The Good Shepherd, the one who gave His life for His sheep, including Betty. Services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton, 1402 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34205. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church. There will be a graveside service in McIntosh, Florida on Monday, April 21 at 11:30 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton or the FSU Autism Institute, 1940 North Monroe Street, Suite 72, Tallahassee, FL 32303. I'm not a member of First Presbyterian, but I've been attending regularly for about four years. The reasons are four: the organist and sanctuary choir, Visiting Pastor Harry Ferguson, and Betty Hamrick, behind whom I sat almost every Sunday and who extended warmth and friendship to me. I'll miss her in church.

A great loss within a great family. My ex husband, Steve Looby, worked for mr.Hamrick most of his life. (I made mr.Hamrick a gold hardhat for his key chain when he retired.)I am so happy his wonderful children will be around him to support him now.God bless.

The loss of a parent is always overwhelming. I did not know Elizabeth, but the kind words shared by so many who did speak volumes of the measure of Mrs. Hamrick. I am blessed to work for her son, Michael Hamrick's, firm and her kindness and love shines through him. He is such a great person and there is no doubt she has left this earth at peace that she did good...and her legacy will live on through them. May the wonderful memories shared with Elizabeth bring solace to Mike and Anita and the Hamrick family as they reflect on those very memories to celebrate the life she lived, the love she gave and the heart prints she left along the way. Thinking of all of you with love and keeping you in prayer. MJB
