Gwendoline Bovinett Obituary

Gwendoline Margaret Bovinett
June 5, 1933 - March 26, 2023
Bradenton, Florida - Gwendoline Margaret Bovinett, age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Bradenton, FL. She was born in London, England on June 5, 1933 to Douglas Arthur Gregory and Ivy Gwendoline Bonner Gregory. Gwendoline was pre-deceased by her husband, Lee R .Bovinett; and her grandson, Ryan Gregory Bovinett. She is survived by her sons; Sean Gregory Bovinett, Patrick Michael Bovinett (Lorraine Chapman) and Simon Nicholas Bovinett; and grandsons; Christopher Douglas Bovinett and James Pollarine (Rosemary). She attended schools in Marlow, England where she discovered her vocal gift at an early age and was fortunate enough to have made a record at age 16.
In 1960, Gwendoline moved to Auburn, AL after marrying Lee. In 1964, the family moved to Lakenheath RAF/USAF base in Suffolk where she and Lee raised their blended family of five teenaged sons. Three years later, the family move to Montgomery, AL, where Gwendoline worked at Loveman's Department Store and the Army/Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and belonged to the British Wives Club.
After Lee retired, he and Gwendoline relocated to Bradenton, FL, where she was employed in Human Resources at Tropicana Products, Inc. During her tenure, she was named World Wide Employee of the Year. In her mid-forties she took up running as a hobby and received many awards in her age group. After Lee's passing, she joined the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church choir and later sang with the Bay Chorale and St. Joseph's Catholic Church choir. In 2004, she performed with the San Fernando Valley Chorale as a mezzo soprano at Carnegie Hall. Gwendoline enjoyed many years with her longtime companion, Bob Smith. They both enjoyed travelling, which included a 30-day cruise of the South Seas.
Gwendoline loved her family, friends and neighbors and her (now deceased) furry friends; Guinness, Muff and Charlie. Her motto was "soldier on" despite obstacles. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service for Gwendoline will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Kirkwood Prebyterian Church in Bradenton FL. Rest in eternal peace Dearest Gwendoline A special lady and a lovely friendship with memories from the past 10 years that I shall cherish. “Rule Britannia” and “God save the Queen/King” were her favorite catch phrases. She always signed off her emails with “consider yourselves hugged” and “Loves ya”.
So sleep well lovely lady, we shall miss ya.
Loves ya & big hugs Becky & Pete Best

Simon, I did not know your beloved Mother, but I am certainly empathetic to you and your family. We have not seen each other in several years, but if you are a replica of Gwendoline in spirit and compassion (and I suspect that you are), she was a heartwarming spirit who generated positive thoughts in all whom she encountered. My deepest sympathy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief. I enjoyed many years of singing with Gwendolyn, not only at Bay Chorale but in different church situations as duet partners. She had a beautiful voice. And I'm sure she's singing in the heavenly choir.
