John Redline Obituary

John ''Jack'' Granville Redline, of Parrish, passed away April 28,2006. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on May 16,1921 and raised in Nazareth, Pa. He attended the University of Pennsylvania on a Senatorial Scholarship and played football. During World War II, he flew 51 missions with the 99th Bomb Group, 416th Squadron, 15th Air Force. He obtained the rank of Captain. After the war he graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., with a BS in Engineering. He entered the steel industry as a trainee for Bethleham Steel Company. He later worked for U.S. Steel then National Steel. He was President of three National Steel divisions and was instrumental in the formation of the employee owned Weirton Steel Company in Weirton, West Virginia. He also worked with the West Virginia state government to attract new industry to the state. Mr. Redline was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, from the Boy Scouts of America. The ''Others'' Award from the Salvation Army and the Benjamin F. Fairless Award for leading the steel industry to accept change. He retired to Parrish, Florida, 19 years ago, where he enjoyed golf and hosting visits from his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Joan; his son, Jeff; his daughter, Jennifer; his sister, Clara; his grandchildren, Robin, Justin and Robert John. A ''Celebration of Life'' Service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 11a.m., at Mansion Memorial Funeral Home, 1400 36th Avenue East, Ellenton with Military Honors, by Kirby Stewart, American Legion Post #24. Donations may be made in Jack's memory to the American Heart Association.

While I did not have the opportunity to know Jack personally, his positive traits flow from father to daughter. My condolences to family and friends, in their moment of grief and loss.
