Joseph Beckham Obituary

Joseph "Doug" Beckham
November 15, 1945 - August 27, 2022
Ruskin, Florida - Joseph Douglas Beckham of Ruskin, FL, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 27th, 2022. "Doug", was born on November 15th, 1945 in Dublin, GA, son of the late Estell and Lillie Beckham.
Doug is survived by his partner of 27 years, Pam Mosley Shumate; his son, Darren Beckham of Bradenton; his sister, Shelby Bentley of Alabama; his brother, Terry Beckham of Ohio; and a long list of deeply-saddened aunts; nieces; nephews; cousins; and extended family.
He also leaves behind Nina & Dolly, his precious dogs that are now missing their favorite person.
In 1951 Doug moved to Bradenton, FL where he graduated from Southeast High School as part of their first graduating class. He was a devout Methodist, and went on to serve in the National Guard and landed a job at GTE where he had a long career in management before retiring in 1992.
Doug loved life. He spent his younger years with friends and family, fishing and air boating in the Florida Everglades. Over the last 3 decades his happiness came from his daily adventures at home with his "Pamie" and their many pooches. Waking up with them and his views of the water were what made him feel like luckiest man alive. And of course, trying to use some of that luck at the casino too.
We can all find solace in knowing he's been reunited with his parents and his brother, J.E. Beckham. What a joyous reunion it must have been for them all.
Services are being held for Doug: September 24, 2022 at 11:00AM at Happy Gospel Church 1915 53 Ave East Bradenton, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Doug and I worked together at GTE, we spent a lot of enjoyable times together after work enjoying what young people loved to do. I remember he had a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 396 Super Sport four speed that would almost fly, I always wanted one like that; but never did. Doug and I worked on many projects together at GTE. I am sorry to see that he has passed, my condolences to his family, God rest his soul. Ray Pringle

I had the honor of working with Doug at GTE & ICI for many years. A good friend and co worker. I've thought of him when crossing the Braden River on many occasions during my many trips between Wesley Chapel and Sarasota. He will be truly missed. The Lord will now have the pleasure of his company.

I worked off and on with Doug (The Kid) from September 1971 until he retired. Can´t recall seeing him in a bad mood. Enjoyed seeing him and the guys funning around.
Rest In Peace Doug!
