Joseph E. Ziel

Joseph E. Ziel, 84, died on Nov. 13, 2006, in Bradenton. Joe was born on Feb. 10, 1922, on the south side of Chicago, Ill., and was a graduate of Leo High and Loyola University, in Chicago. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the United States Navy. After which he served as a Special Agent, in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, from 1949-1975. In the F.B.I., Joe served in Newark, N.J.; New York City; Chicago, Ill.; F.B.I. Head Quarters, Richmond, Va.; and retired as SAC from Springfield, Ill. Joe's avocation in his life was law enforcement and his church. After his retirement, he continued to be active in his community by volunteering for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council, and St. Joseph Church. Joe belonged to the Sun Coast and Gulf Coast Chapters, of Former Special Agents of the F.B.I., the latter of which he was one of the original founders. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Joseph, and later Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Joseph Ziel in survived by his wife, Agnes, of 63 years, and their two daughters, Mary Jurewicz and Celeste Besel, both of Bradenton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation is 6-8p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, at Brown and Sons Funeral Homes, 43rd St. Chapel, 604 43rd St. W., Bradenton. Funeral Mass is 2p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, 2850 75th St. W., Bradenton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Ill.
