To Malana's Family,
I had the great pleasure, and indeed privilege, to work with Malana when she came down to South Florida to help us at Boca Java. She was a light that shone brightly every day she was with us. She was strong and lovely genius who never ceased to amaze us. Her capacity for helping, leading, guiding and caring was apparent from day one. I know I speak for all of us down here when I say we were so very fortunate to have known here. A beautiful superhero who no one would--or could--ever forget. God bless you all.

Marye, Luke, Mom & Dad Mortenson & family, You and the world has lost gods greatest gift. You and Malana have always been the best friends & closest thing to a sister I have ever had. You both have taught me so much, from work, to friendships to living life to the fullest. The memories we will all have from our road trips to NH for our ride of a life time to watching Malana talk to someone standing in the rain in Atlanta holding her umbrella over their head to keep them dry & ending up seeing her idol being crowned champion because of it. Our Saturday bingo trips to Foxwoods. Hanging at the beach in FL and just so much more. She would laugh at me every time we talked and I told her she was gods gift to me! I am so grateful to have gotten to spend the day with her a few weeks ago doing some of her favorite things together. She is and will forever be in my heart as well as all of you. She is going to be so deeply missed. I so wish I could give my extended family in FL the biggest of hugs and I hope you feel all the love I have for you. I am here for you always & forever! I love you!!

Marye,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know there are no words that can ease your pain right now, but try to take some comfort in the fact that Malana touched so many people in her short lifetime. She was an incredibly smart lady who readily shared her knowledge to anyone that needed it, and take it from someone who benefited from that knowledge, no matter how many questions I asked she always kept a smile on her face and never made me feel stupid. She had an air of class about her that you don't see too often, and I had the utmost respect for her. It is people like Malana that make the world a better place, and she will be sorely missed. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Dear Marye,
Words will never ever be able to express how sorry I am. You taught me first, then your sister, that you can be smart, make your point, and still KEEP your respect! If there was some way I could make your pain go away, I would do it - and so would a lot of other people. That's how special you are, that's how special Malana was. Our hearts are overwhelmed in trying to figure out how we can ease your pain but we all know, that's a hard task to complete. Please know Marye, there are many of us supporting you in spirit to help you get through this and we will continue to do so every single day.

I am so very sad and I know words can't ease your pain but please know that Malana left her footprint on many hearts. Malana was such an incredible person who gave, taught, mentored and was a true friend. There are so many memories that I have always and will continue to cherish. From the hot dog cooker with skymall, lots of laughter with the old crew, happiness for me & Bill, to my son having an incredible crush when he was just a young boy and calling her Malano cookies, and lets not forget the hot apple cider joke when I was a new employee of hers. I had countless conversations with her that were also more serious. I am so sad and so sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs...
