Bradenton, Florida - Richard "Dick" DeCoster of Bradenton, 72 years old, passed away peacefully at Tidewell Hospice House on Saturday, September 18th. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Vicky, his brother John (Ann), his son Tom (Jacque), his daughter Brandi, his stepdaughter Rachel (Tilynn), stepson Chris, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Steve, his father Julius ("Zook"), and his mother Mary. Dick was born and raised in Moline, IL. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy and spent 20 years building a long and distinguished naval career, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1990. It was in his civilian life where he met his wife Vicky while working at Illini Hospital and the two were married in 1997. Prior to retiring to Florida, he spent many years living with his wife in Moline, IL and working for the Moline Water Treatment Plant. An avid bird lover his whole life, he has had many birds as pets through the years. He leaves behind four birds that he loved dearly and thought of like his own children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Birds of Paradise Sanctuary and Rescue in Bradenton. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Tidewell Hospice House for the incredible warmth, compassion, and dignity they provided for Dick as he transitioned peacefully to the other side. There will be a ceremony at Sarasota National Cemetery on September 28th, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
