William Wamester Obituary

William (Bill) David Wamester passed away in sunny Arizona on February 1st, 2026. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Susan Bjornberg and his two children, Tadd Wamester and Sarah Wamester Bares, as well as his grandchildren, Henry and Minna, and dear cousin, Judy Usen. Bill was predeceased by his devoted wife, Norma (née Schilke), his parents, Ruth and Merrill Wamester, as well as his brothers, Douglas and James Wamester. Bill was born in Buffalo, New York and spent his childhood years in Durham, CT. He was selected to sing in St. Thomas Choir School in New York City, from 5th through 8th grade, later graduating from Blair Academy, Central Connecticut State University and lastly, earning his Master's in Public Health from Yale University. Bill lived a life of service to his community, as a Biology Teacher at Coginchaug Regional High School, working in public health in Middletown, and as Acting Director of Public Health in East Hartford, CT. He served many years as President of Midconn Credit Union, and on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Education in Clinton, CT, and as Chairman of the latter. Bill was quite competitive playing duplicate bridge and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He loved living by the water, and retired with Norma to Anna Maria Island, FL, later moving inland to Palma Sola Shores in Bradenton. Summers were spent with family and friends at Lake Hayward in East Haddam, CT. Bill's family wishes to thank the Adler Center at Yale and The Towers at Tower Lane for supporting Bill and keeping him independent as long as possible through his extended illness. Bill appreciated receiving calls from his dear friend Barbara Kiesel up until the end. Bill would often say "I don't do wakes, funerals, or testimonials." In accordance with his wishes, the family will celebrate his life with joy together at a later time. Donations may be made in his honor to https://scholarshipamerica.org/donate/. After all, "If you get a good education" anything is possible.

As a kid, I remember helping Uncle Bill nail siding onto his house in Clinton, Ct at the beach. I remember visiting Aunt Norma and Uncle Bills regularly during the summer when we had big summertime parties at Aunt Helen. Those were happy times.
