Basil A. "Bucky" Freeman Jr.

1932 - 2022

PORT ALLEGANY -Basil A. "Bucky" Freeman Jr., 89, of Meadow Lane, passed away Wednesday (June 1, 2022) in the Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1932, a son of Basil A. and Catherine M. Obleski Freeman. On Jan. 6, 1951, in Smethport, he married Patricia J. Walker, who died Aug. 9, 1996.
Basil was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1950.
He was employed with Market Basket, Port Allegany, as a meat cutter, and worked up to Executive VP for the Olean division of Flickinger Corp., before his retirement.
Basil was a member of F.& A.M. Liberty Lodge 505, Port Allegany. He was a former member of the Smethport Country Club, and enjoyed playing golf any chance he got. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also enjoyed working on his MAC desktop computer.
Surviving are a son, Basil J. (Doreen) Freeman of Melbourne, Fla.; four daughters, H. Debbie (Kevin) Leet and Dianne (Jeffery) Russell, both of Port Allegany, Dorothy (Kenneth) Bodle of Clearfield, Cindy (Gino) Laspina of Jeannette; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Launa "Lee" Branch of Port Allegany; a sister-in-law, Jan Freeman of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Thomas R. Freeman, and two sisters, Jean Haskins and Beverly Baker.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Saturday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday (Jun. 5, 2022) with Rev. Joann Paitko, officiating.
A masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
