Christopher Danias Obituary

Christopher Danias of Bradford passed away Monday (Aug. 21, 2023) at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

He was born Nov. 11, 1951, a son of the late James K. and Frances H. Danias.

He was a 1969 graduate of Bradford Senior High School.

Chris's love of playing the drums began in his teens. The most active and successful band Chris played with was Railway Express, which was active from 1973 to 1977, playing five to six nights a week. The band toured Western and Upstate New York, all of Pennsylvania and multiple cities in Ohio. He also had fond memories of playing with the bands West, John David's Mood and the Hartle Brothers.

Chris inherited his love of cooking from his parents, whose diner The Famous Lunch was a Mechanic Street staple in Bradford for decades and known for its Greek hot dog sauce.

For several years Chris was a cook at the Dresser Home. He worked at Futures Rehabilitation Center for 27 years, retiring as a delivery driver in 2016.

In addition to his love of music, Chris was an avid hunter who loved being outdoors, particularly at the family's camps.

He is survived by one brother, Thomas (Sue) Danias of Erie; sisters, Dianne Dale of Erie and Tina (James) Lopez of Erie; nieces and nephews, Kelly Danias of Irmo, S.C., Beth Eberth of Portville, N.Y., Kathleen Danias (Brad Skaggs) of Bradford, Kristen Danias of Erie, Jennifer Bailey of Erie, Thomas Danias of Erie, Stacie (Joseph) Gorse of Derrick City, Anthony (Kathleen) Danias Jr. of Cary, N.C., Danny Lopez of Erie and Amanda (Kirkland) Pyles of Waterford; one great-niece; several great-nephews; and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, James C. (Rebecca) Danias and Anthony (Christy) Danias Sr.; and a brother-in-law, James Dale.

Throughout his life Chris was blessed with wonderful neighbors, childhood companions who would ride their bikes to Allegany State Park to go fishing, or, in later years, a kind network who stopped by with groceries and friendship.

Visitation will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 24, 2023) at Mascho Funeral Home Inc., 75 Kennedy St., with a funeral service immediately following with the Rev. John Jacquel, pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to Futures Rehabilitation Center, One Futures Way, Bradford, Pa., 16701; or the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., P.O. Box 113, Bradford.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mascho Funeral Home Inc.

So sorry to hear of Chris's passing. When my family lived on Miller Street, Chris would come over to our house and in my upstairs bedroom he would beat on an old German army helmet that I had while I struggled to play guitar. Many years later he told me, that's where he got the inspiration to become a drummer.

Deepest sympathy to family and friends of Chris Danias, a good buddy, since grammar school, to my youngest brother Joe.
