David Barger Obituary

David L. Barger, 75, of 5701 Church St., Limestone, N.Y., passed away, Sunday (Sept. 17, 2023) at Bradford Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 13, 1947, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Frank C. and Virginia Fox Barger.
Dave was a 1966 graduate of Limestone Union Free School. During high school and for a short time after he graduated, he worked for the railroad.
On Sept. 2, 1966, he enlisted into the United States Army. He was assigned to be a mechanic for heavy equipment. He was honorably discharged on April 6, 1969.
After the service he worked on the construction of Route 17, then began working at Kendall Refining Company. He worked for over 35 years and retired as an operator from American Refining Group.
On Feb. 7, 1976, in the First Free Methodist Church, he married Jeanne L. Saxton Barger, who survives.
He was a member of the B-Free Church of Bradford, formerly known as the First Free Methodist Church, the Quarter Century Club at Kendall, he was member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 1560 in Limestone, where he was instrumental in helping to build the new Post building. He was a 54-year member of the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Post 108, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 212, both in Bradford. He enjoyed running the chains at the Allegany-Limestone football games, playing Euchre, attending Buffalo Bills games, he also loved working with wood and building things like fishing lures. He cherished fishing and spending time with his grandson David Hendryx, who was named after him.
Surviving is his wife Jeanne, of 47 years, two daughters, Cara (James) Case of Bradford, and Amy (Jeff Jr.) Hendryx of Bradford, and one God-daughter, Angela Fox of Limestone; two grandchildren, David Hendryx, and Cheyene (Brock) Childs; one great-grandson, Gabriel Childs; two sisters-in-law, Twila Barger of Bradford, and Janet (Ray) Hill of Salamanca, N.Y.; one brother-in-law Jack Saxton in Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mary Barger, three brothers, Frank "Butch" Barger, Ralph Barger, and Richard Barger.
Services are private at the convenience of family. There will be no future visitation or memorial service per his request. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. in Bradford.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight, P.O. Box 426, Clarence, NY 14031 or Limestone Volunteer Fire Department.
